Job description

If you are a licensed counselor/therapist-or currently working toward licensure-and have a compassionate, caring approach to helping individuals on their journey to recovery, STEPS Recovery Solutions may have the career opportunity for you.
We are currently seeking a PRN Counselor to join our Lake Charles clinical team. This position will primarily provide weekend counseling coverage, with additional opportunities to cover groups during the week as needed. We are looking for someone who is flexible, dependable, passionate about behavioral health and substance use treatment, and interested in becoming part of a collaborative team focused on providing high-quality client care.
Schedule
  • PRN position with primary coverage on weekends
  • Availability to provide group counseling and other clinical coverage during the week as needed

Responsibilities
As a PRN Counselor, you will:
  • Provide clinical services through individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups, particularly during weekend coverage and as needed during the week.
  • Complete and maintain admission, discharge, and updated treatment plans as assigned.
  • Prepare clinical updates and documentation needed for utilization review.
  • Provide crisis intervention and appropriate referrals when indicated.
  • Engage clients throughout their treatment episode and provide care with compassion, respect, and unconditional positive regard.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation of clinical services, interventions, phone calls, and other relevant client information.
  • Complete progress notes and maintain accurate, up-to-date client charts.
  • Collaborate closely with medical, clinical, nursing, and support staff.
  • Immediately communicate unusual findings, safety concerns, or potentially high-risk situations to appropriate team members.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings when applicable.
  • Provide clinical support to other members of the treatment team as needed.
  • Follow applicable regulations, organizational policies, and clinical standards related to caseloads, group sizes, referrals, and treatment services.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To be considered, candidates should have:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • A current, unrestricted behavioral health/addiction credential or license, including LAC, CAC, RAC, CCS, LMSW, LCSW, LPC, PLPC, LMFT, PLMFT, or other applicable credential.
  • Counselor in Training (CIT) status may be considered in lieu of current licensure when appropriate.
  • Previous clinical or clinical internship experience providing counseling/therapy services, preferably within substance use disorder, addiction treatment, behavioral health, or dual-diagnosis treatment.
  • Understanding of the role of 12-Step principles in recovery and sobriety.
  • Ability to establish positive therapeutic rapport with clients and appropriately interact with families, coworkers, referral sources, and community partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An engaging, professional personality with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and high standards of client care.
  • Weekend availability is required.

Job Type & Compensation
Job Type: PRN - Weekend/As-Needed Coverage
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour, based on credentials and experience.
