The Director, Software Engineering — DDI role leads Walmart’s enterprise DNS, DHCP, and IPAM engineering organization, shaping the strategy, architecture, and execution of mission-critical network identity services across stores, eCommerce, logistics, and private cloud. This is an opportunity to lead at exceptional scale—setting long-term technical direction, growing a high-performing engineering organization, and delivering foundational infrastructure that supports millions of customers and associates every day.
About the team:
The DDI engineering team manages critical DNS, DHCP, and IPAM services supporting Walmart’s stores, eCommerce, logistics, private cloud, and associate platforms. Operating at enterprise scale, the team designs and maintains resilient, secure, and automation-driven infrastructure to ensure system reliability and availability. Collaborating closely with network, cloud, security, and retail technology teams, they focus on modernizing core services and enhancing operational excellence. This team delivers dependable network identity platforms essential to Walmart’s daily business operations, driving innovation and continuous improvement across complex, large-scale environments.
What you'll do:
  • Set the Strategy and Direction for DDI: Own roadmap, priorities, and success measures.
  • Lead Architecture and Platform Evolution: Modernize scalable, resilient, cloud-ready DDI platforms.
  • Drive Delivery of Foundational Services: Deliver reliable services with quality and operational rigor.
  • Lead Engineering Execution End to End: Apply DevOps, SRE, monitoring, and change discipline.
  • Shape Services Around Customer Needs: Translate customer needs into measurable engineering priorities.
  • Build and Lead the Engineering Organization: Grow accountable, collaborative, high-performing teams.
  • Advance Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Use automation, AI, and vendor insight to improve services.
  • Communicate Clearly and Lead Across Functions: Align strategy, standards, and execution across partners.

What you'll bring:
Technical and Domain Leadership
  • Deep DDI Expertise: Strong command of DNS, DHCP, and IPAM architectures, operations, and engineering patterns in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Hybrid and Cloud Experience: Experience leading DDI services across on-prem, virtualized, Kubernetes, and major cloud environments.
  • Security and Operational Rigor: Familiarity with enterprise DNS security controls, resiliency practices, and service governance.
Organizational and Executive Leadership
  • Organizational Leadership: Proven success leading and scaling engineering organizations through managers and senior technical leaders.
  • Talent and Team Development: Experience building strong teams through coaching, performance management, succession planning, and organizational design.
  • Executive Presence: Ability to influence across functions and communicate clearly with technical, product, and business leaders.

The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00 - $312,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
