POSITION
Research Analyst Translational Rehabilitation Technology, 20 hours/week
RESPONSIBILITIES The Research Analyst supports activities within the Research Institute ("Institute") by advancing clinical research and technology development efforts in neurosciences and rehabilitation engineering. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, assisting with developing technology, analyzing human movement, and ensuring the quality and technical execution of all applied and clinical data collection and analysis procedures. The work requires familiarity with Visual 3D coding (pipelines), motion capture systems, and biomechanical data analysis. The Research Analyst exercises judgment during data collection to balance unique clinical needs with research demands. Designs and prototypes devices under the direction of the Director of Translational Rehabilitation Technology. Responsibilities include integrating 3D modeling (SolidWorks), 3D printing, 3D scanning, and other relevant hardware and software, and applying mechanical and electronics engineering principles to support rehabilitation research and product development. Assists in developing abstracts and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and conferences and delivers presentations in clinical and academic settings. Orients and trains interns, volunteers, and research assistants in laboratory procedures, data collection, and equipment operation. * Work is conducted in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, protocols, and procedures, with a commitment to quality service delivery and collaboration across internal departments and external research communities.
SKILLS & ABILITIES Must have a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical/electronic devices and lab equipment, and experience working with hardware and software for prototype development. Strong communication skills and working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment are essential. Attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills are necessary for success in this role. Proficient use of a computer for clinical and research purposes. * Must have strong problem-solving skills for preventing and resolving hardware and software compatibility issues, and excellent analytical skills for screening data.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in a field related to engineering, biomechanics, or health sciences (e.g., exercise science or kinesiology) is required; MS degree preferred. Experience and expertise in conducting biomechanical human movement analyses required. Experience in mechanical engineering, electronics, or related fields is beneficial. A solid understanding of basic anatomy and kinesiology is necessary for correctly applying recording electrodes over muscles and collaboratively developing prototype technologies to enhance functional independence. Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks) and 3D printing is required, along with familiarity with Visual 3D coding (pipelines) for biomechanical data analysis. Current CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer and successful completion of the CITI Program.
