Responsibilities

Administrative fellows partner with administrative leaders, physicians, scientists, nursing, shared services, and other stakeholders across the organization to lead and coordinate operational and administrative functions in alignment with strategic priorities. Administrative fellows play a pivotal role across sites, shields and departments, contributing to teams and service lines while embodying our Mayo Clinic values.

The program consists of six to eight rotations in areas such as Practice Administration, Education Administration, Research Administration, Finance, Strategy, and Human Resources. Fellows also participate in elective rotations that are tailored to their professional goals, skillsets, interests, and organizational need. Focus areas for the fellowship include: 1.) Destination Medical Center 2.) Population and Rural Health and 3.) Research. Fellows are identified and selected for the focus areas as part of the offer and acceptance process. Administrative Fellows will be assigned to a primary location and may have the opportunity to complete a ~12-week offsite rotational experience to another location during the fellowship.
Location Sites: 

Opportunities for placement include Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; Rochester, Minnesota; or the Mayo Clinic Health System including Eau Claire, Wisconsin; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Mankato, Minnesota. 


Qualifications
  • Master's degree (M.B.A., M.H.A., M.H.S.A. or related field received within three years of the application cycle) or be a degree candidate who is on schedule to complete the master's degree before the fellowship start date or master's degree classes completed and degree to be awarded upon completion of an administrative fellowship appointment.
  • Master's degree program must be a two-year program with on-campus attendance. Virtual and hybrid programs will not be considered.
    Health care industry experience such as internship, externship, fellowship or applicable employment required.
  • Possess broad knowledge of current and historical perspectives on health care business management and administration, clinical practice management, clinical research and education, hospital administration and management, finance, human resources and organizational development, information systems, and managed care.
  • Candidates with a master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) are preferred; candidates from non-CAHME programs are accepted for review.
  • External applicants are preferred along with those that have completed internships in healthcare administration
