Job description

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Cottonwood Endocrinology and Diabetes Care
Sandy, Utah | Full-Time | On-Site
Two Positions Available
$20–$23 per hour, depending on experience, training, and qualifications

POSITION OVERVIEW

Cottonwood Endocrinology and Diabetes Care is seeking two full-time Medical Assistants to join our outpatient specialty practice in Sandy, Utah.

We are looking for dependable, motivated individuals who enjoy working directly with patients and physicians in a busy clinical environment. Prior Medical Assistant experience is preferred, particularly in outpatient or specialty medicine, but we are also willing to consider exceptional candidates who are relatively recent graduates of a Medical Assistant program and demonstrate strong clinical skills, maturity, initiative, and a desire to learn.

Our Medical Assistants work closely with endocrinologists and other providers caring for patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, and other endocrine and metabolic conditions.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to gain strong hands-on clinical experience in a physician-led specialty practice.

Medical Assistants work under the clinical leadership of our Head Medical Assistant, who oversees MA training, clinical workflows, competency development, and day-to-day clinical support.

The Medical Office Manager oversees broader administrative matters including scheduling, attendance, PTO, payroll, and general practice operations.

Medical Assistants work closely with these leaders, our physicians, other providers, on-site staff, and the remote Virtual Medical Assistant team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include:

  • Room and prepare patients for office visits
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs
  • Review and update/reconcile medications, allergies, and relevant patient information
  • Prepare charts and clinical information for providers
  • Support physicians and other providers during clinic sessions
  • Help maintain efficient patient flow
  • Respond to patient telephone calls and portal messages within established protocols and MA scope
  • Communicate provider instructions to patients
  • Assist with medication refill workflows
  • Coordinate laboratory testing, referrals, records, and follow-up
  • Assist with forms and clinical documentation
  • Manage assigned EHR task queues and follow-up responsibilities
  • Assist with routine office procedures and clinical workflows
  • Work collaboratively with other Medical Assistants and off-site Virtual Medical Assistants
  • Participate in training and implementation of new clinical workflows and technology
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation
  • Provide courteous and compassionate service to patients

TRAINING & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

New Medical Assistants receive training and ongoing support from our Head Medical Assistant and clinical team.

We place a strong emphasis on developing excellent outpatient clinical skills, including:

  • Efficient patient rooming and interviewing
  • Provider support
  • Patient communication
  • EHR task management
  • Medication and refill workflows
  • Laboratory and follow-up coordination
  • Managing the needs of patients with chronic and complex medical conditions

Medical Assistants are expected to become increasingly independent as their skills and familiarity with the practice develop.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Either prior Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient clinical setting OR recent completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program
  • Strong communication, organizational, and patient-service skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy outpatient medical practice
  • Comfortable using computers and learning electronic health record (EHR) and other clinical systems
  • Reliable, professional, and able to work collaboratively with physicians, providers, and other staff
  • Strong clinical fundamentals
  • Reliability and maturity
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced medical practice
  • Genuine interest in patient care

Preferred

  • Prior experience in a busy outpatient or specialty medical practice
  • Experience in endocrinology, internal medicine, family medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, or another outpatient specialty
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, certification, or an equivalent combination of documented clinical training and relevant hands-on experience
  • Experience using an electronic health record (EHR)
  • Experience communicating with patients by telephone, portal, or other electronic messaging
  • Phlebotomy skills are a strong plus
  • Fluency in medical Spanish is a strong plus but not required

Pre-Health & Future Healthcare Professionals

  • Candidates considering future careers in medicine, physician assistant practice, nursing, or other healthcare professions are welcome to apply.
  • Our specialty practice can provide valuable experience working directly with physicians, providers, and patients with complex chronic medical conditions.
  • However, this is a substantive Medical Assistant position rather than a short-term clinical-shadowing opportunity. Candidates pursuing additional education should still be prepared to perform the full responsibilities of the position and preferably have prior clinical or healthcare experience.
  • Because of the investment we make in training and the importance of continuity for our patients and providers, we are seeking candidates who can make a minimum two-year commitment to the practice.

TECHNOLOGY & MODERN PRACTICE ENVIRONMENT

Cottonwood Endocrinology and Diabetes Care uses Elation EHR and continues to implement technology to improve patient communication and clinical workflow.

Our Medical Assistants will participate in new workflows involving patient engagement, electronic communication, document management, remote support staff, and other practice technologies.

We are looking for individuals who are comfortable with computers, willing to learn new systems, and interested in working in a modern outpatient practice.

THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Successful Medical Assistants in our practice are:

  • Dependable and punctual
  • Friendly and professional with patients
  • Organized and attentive to detail
  • Comfortable working at a steady clinical pace
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Good communicators
  • Team-oriented
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and coaching
  • Willing to learn
  • Able to follow established clinical workflows
  • Interested in becoming increasingly skilled and independent

We particularly value people who see a task that needs to be completed and take responsibility for getting it done.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

$20–$23 per hour, depending on experience, training, and qualifications.

Candidates who are relatively new to Medical Assisting but demonstrate excellent clinical skills, maturity, reliability, and potential may be considered for placement at the lower end of the range. Candidates with prior experience in a busy outpatient or specialty medical practice may qualify toward the upper end.

Benefits include:

  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off
  • Tuition/education benefit
  • On-the-job training and professional development
  • Opportunity to develop strong specialty clinical experience
  • Opportunity for advancement within the practice

HOW TO APPLY

Please submit a resume describing your Medical Assistant training and any prior clinical or healthcare experience.

Applicants with previous outpatient clinical experience are preferred, but exceptional recent graduates of Medical Assistant programs are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be prepared to make a minimum two-year commitment to the position.
