Depending on the company, you could collaborate closely with senior accountants and learn about compliance with financial regulations. Senior Audit Associate - Public Accounting (CPA Firm)

This is your opportunity to step into a high-visibility role at an established regional CPA firm in Southeast Michigan - leading complex audit engagements, shaping junior talent, and advising a diverse middle-market client portfolio with real autonomy and a clear path to future leadership.

What you'll do

  • Plan, execute, and deliver audit, review, and compilation engagements in full compliance with U.S. GAAP and GAAS, keeping each engagement on scope, budget, and timeline.

  • Own complex technical accounting matters end-to-end, from risk assessment and audit program design through workpaper sign-off and financial statement delivery.

  • Lead engagement risk assessments and build targeted, efficient audit testing programs that add measurable value beyond compliance.

  • Serve as the primary client contact throughout each engagement, proactively communicating status and surfacing actionable operational insights to management.

  • Supervise, coach, and formally evaluate associates and interns, reviewing their workpapers for accuracy, completeness, and sound audit logic.

  • Conduct specialized accounting research and author advisory memos on complex reporting topics.

  • Support firm growth by contributing to proposal preparation, client pitches, and professional networking.

What you need

  • 3-5 years of progressive public accounting audit experience, preferably with privately held middle-market clients.

  • Active CPA license or demonstrated, active progress toward CPA exam completion.

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, and risk-based audit methodologies.

  • Prior experience delegating to and formally reviewing the work of junior staff.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's in Accounting (MAcc/MAC) is a plus.

  • Proficiency with paperless audit platforms such as CCH Engagement or CaseWare.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, data validation, reconciliation modeling).

  • Experience contributing to business development or client proposal processes.

Pay & benefits

  • Base salary: $80,000-$110,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

  • Health & wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with company match.

  • Time Off: 4 Weeks of PTO

  • Growth: Structured mentorship, defined promotion track, and a clear path to firm leadership.

Location & schedule

  • Offices: Troy, MI | Bingham Farms, MI | Ann Arbor, MI (Southeast Michigan metro area).

  • Work model: Office-based; local client travel approximately 10% or less.

  • Schedule: Full-time. Seasonal busy-season hours of 50+ hours per week (typically January-April) are expected and supported by the team.
