Job description

Concern Housing is seeking a Facilities Custodian to be responsible for the routine cleaning, upkeep, and overall appearance of agency properties and individual apartments located throughout Riverhead, East Patchogue, and Pollack Gardens. This role supports the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance needs of the facilities and will require traveling throughout Suffolk County property sites. Days/Hours: Monday - Friday; 9am - 5pm Location(s): Suffolk County Property Sites Responsibilities Include but are not limited to: Vacuum offices, hallways, stairways, lobbies, lounges, conference rooms, exercise rooms, and all additional common areas.

Dust office furniture, windowsills, countertops, blinds, and other surfaces throughout the facilities. Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from offices, bathrooms, apartments, and common areas. Clean and sanitize bathrooms including fixtures, mirrors, counters, and floors.

Maintain adequate bathroom and custodial supply inventory and notify management when additional supplies are needed. Clean building floors through sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and vacuuming. Follow all safety procedures regarding the use of chemical cleaners and cleaning equipment.

Maintain the cleanliness of exterior property grounds including patios, sidewalks, walkways, parking lots, and entrances. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas using snow shovels, snow blowers, and snow melting products. Set up and break down tables, chairs, decorations, and equipment for meetings and agency events.

Dust, clean, and maintain exercise equipment and shared facility spaces. Perform minor maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, replacing filters, and reporting repair needs to management. Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.

Clean individual apartments including kitchens, bathrooms, floors, appliances, blinds, and trash removal. Assist with apartment turnovers and prepare units for occupancy as needed. Support major periodic cleaning projects including window washing, carpet cleaning, wall washing, upholstery cleaning, and furniture moving.

May assist with the cleanup of units or areas damaged by residents when necessary. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment at all assigned locations. Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and trainings.

Be available for overtime hours as needed and directed by supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements: High School Diploma preferred along with 6 months or more of related custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience preferred.

Must possess a valid Driver's License along with strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and work independently across multiple property locations is required. Must have basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.

Position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying items weighing up to fifty pounds, with heavier items requiring team lift assistance.
