QUALITY & SAFETY FIELD ENGINEERCivil Division | Early-Career OpportunityHome Base: Birmingham, Alabama area | Travel: Approximately 90% | Initial Project: Sevierville, Tennessee areaTimberline Construction Group is seeking an early-career Quality & Safety Project Engineer to support our Civil Division on underground utility and site preparation projects. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or someone approximately 1-3 years out of school with relevant internship, co-op, field, or early-career construction experience. The position combines quality control, safety compliance, project documentation, and hands-on field support while working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, crews, subcontractors, clients, and inspectors.Key Responsibilities· Support project-specific quality control plans and perform field inspections to verify compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and standards.· Coordinate material submittals, testing, inspections, and documentation for water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related site work.· Assist with jobsite safety audits, Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), toolbox talks, OSHA compliance, near-miss tracking, and corrective actions.· Assist Project Managers with RFIs, change orders, daily reports, purchase requisitions, project records, and as-built drawings.· Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, clients, and internal teams to resolve quality, safety, or field concerns.· Review daily reports and timecards for accuracy of labor hours, quantities, equipment, and materials.· Assist with weekly project updates, bid proposals, cost projections, project cost reports, and Work Performance Reports (WPRs).· Help monitor subcontractor and vendor performance while gaining hands-on exposure to scheduling, cost management, and project closeout.Qualifications· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Science, or a related field preferred.· Recent graduate or approximately 1-3 years out of school; relevant internship, co-op, field, or construction experience strongly preferred.· Exposure to heavy civil construction, underground utilities, excavation, site preparation, or infrastructure projects is a plus.· Ability to read construction plans and technical specifications with strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.· Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, HCSS, Unanet, or similar construction software is a plus.· Self-motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced field environment.Location & Travel· Must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Birmingham, Alabama area.· Must be willing and able to travel approximately 90% of the time, including extended project assignments and overnight travel.· The initial project assignment will begin in the Sevierville, Tennessee area.· Daily per diem and company-paid lodging are provided for qualifying travel assignments.What We Offer· Competitive salary and benefits with career advancement opportunities.· Hands-on experience with high-impact civil infrastructure projects and experienced construction leadership.· Opportunity to build skills across quality, safety, field operations, project management, estimating, and cost control.Employment with Timberline Construction Group is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and a background check, which may include criminal history and employment verification.By submitting your application, you consent to agreeing to partake in a pre-employment drug test and a background check.
