Quality Internship

The Quality Intern will work alongside Dexter’s Quality Team to support quality initiatives, analyze data, solve problems, and contribute to continuous improvement projects within a manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on internship designed to give students meaningful experience applying quality and continuous improvement principles to real-world business and manufacturing challenges. Interns may support projects from initial definition and scoping through data collection, analysis, documentation, implementation, and results.

This position is located at Dexter’s headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana.

What You’ll Work On

As a Quality Intern, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in the classroom while gaining practical experience with quality systems, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement. Projects and responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting quality and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Project definition, scoping, and development of documented project plans
  • Applying Lean, Six Sigma, and Toyota Production System methodologies to continuous improvement activities
  • Performing daily and weekly quality data checks
  • Collecting and entering data from manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Analyzing, charting, and reporting quality data
  • Identifying trends and opportunities for process and quality improvements
  • Supporting problem-solving and troubleshooting activities
  • Creating documents, drawings, training materials, and other resources needed to support and complete projects
  • Collaborating with Quality and other team members to support project objectives and quality initiatives

What We’re Looking For

  • Enthusiasm for quality, manufacturing, and continuous improvement
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Clear, professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to manage changing priorities and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety
  • Professionalism, accountability, and sound judgment
  • The ability to appropriately handle confidential company and business information
  • A willingness to ask questions, learn, and take ownership of your work

Knowledge of or exposure to quality systems, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or the Toyota Production System is preferred.

Candidates must have a high school diploma and be actively enrolled at an accredited college or university in Engineering, Quality Management, Business, or a related field of study.
