Company Description

The National MS Society, New Jersey Metro Chapter is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. Our chapter services more than 10,000 people living with MS, their families and friends. The Development Department is responsible for the planning and implementation of Walk MS and Bike MS, our Chapter's major fundraising events.

Job Description

Position Summary: The intern will support the overall event planning and implementation for the chapter's fundraising events - Climb to the Top, Walk MS, Bike MS and MuckFest MS. The Special Events Intern will provide direct and crucial support to the Development Department's efforts to increase awareness, funding and participation in the chapter's 14-county service area.
Responsibilities/Duties:    
    Assist the Development Department with coordination of event logistics
    Assist the Development Department with community and corporate team development
    Assist the Development Department with day-of-event preparation
    Provide support in the recruitment and engagement of event participants and volunteers
    Research and identify community and corporate groups and organizations
    Research and secure in-kind donations
    Maintain positive communication with sponsors, donors and event participants
    Assist with event material communications, both writing and mailing
    Other administrative duties as necessary


Qualifications

Qualifications/Required Skills:
    Ideal candidate has an interest in event planning, marketing, communications, or philanthropy
    Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills and speaking
    Must have the ability to perform various administrative duties, including talking on the phone
    Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform various on-location tasks
    Proficient use of the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet research skills

Training/Orientation Provided: The Development Department provides training and orientation regarding the Chapter and the internship. Clearly defined department priorities and personal responsibilities are provided. The intern can expect to receive ongoing support and supervision as well.
Time Commitment: Minimum of 10-15 hours per week, which may be flexible but will require some scheduling.
Compensation: This is an educational, unpaid internship. This internship is designed to educate and allow students to be hands on with special events for a nationwide nonprofit organization with major fundraising events.
