What Does a Processing Team Member Do Anyway?
  • Sort donated items and identify great finds
  • Help identify recyclable items. Even if we can't sell it, we keep it out of the landfill
  • Get those great finds sales floor ready
  • Load and unload carts to get merchandise out safely and efficiently

Processing Team Member - Backroom & Grader Opportunities
America's Thrift Stores is hiring Processing Team Members to join our fast-paced production team! We currently have opportunities in both Backroom and Grader positions.
Both roles are essential to keeping merchandise moving efficiently through our processing operation and onto the sales floor. We're looking for dependable, hardworking team members who enjoy staying active, working as part of a team, and contributing to a mission-driven organization.
Processing Team Member - Backroom
The Backroom Processing Team Member helps keep production running smoothly by maintaining an organized work area, moving merchandise and carts between stations, and ensuring team members have the supplies they need to meet daily production goals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Restock and organize hangers to support production.
  • Move merchandise and carts efficiently between processing stations.
  • Remove completed carts and replace them with full carts to minimize production downtime.
  • Organize backstock carts using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.
  • Transport accessories and miscellaneous merchandise to designated staging areas.
  • Weigh and accurately record merchandise as required.
  • Keep processing areas clean, organized, and free of obstructions.
  • Empty trash and recycling throughout the processing area.
  • Work closely with team members to maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Assist at other processing stations as needed.
  • Follow all company safety and quality standards.

Processing Team Member - Grader
The Grader Processing Team Member focuses on inspecting and evaluating donated merchandise to determine quality, condition, and sellability. This position plays an important role in ensuring the merchandise reaching our sales floor meets our quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect clothing, shoes, household goods, and other merchandise for stains, tears, odors, damage, and other defects.
  • Categorize merchandise as sellable, non-sellable, or recyclable according to company standards.
  • Grade and price merchandise accurately while meeting established production expectations.
  • Handle seasonal and specialty merchandise according to established guidelines.
  • Maintain strong quality standards to ensure merchandise is ready for our customers.
  • Participate in training to stay current on quality and seasonal standards.
  • Rotate positions and assist at other processing workstations as needed.
  • Follow all company safety and quality standards.

Qualifications for Both Positions
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Dependable and consistent attendance.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet production goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with good communication skills.
  • Comfortable handling a variety of merchandise, including clothing, toys, shoes, and household items.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and handle merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Willingness to learn and assist in different areas as business needs change.
  • No previous processing experience required - comprehensive on-the-job training is provided.

Physical Demands:
  • Frequently - Carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 14-foot height, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling and smelling.
  • Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, bending, feeling, and reaching waist/overhead level.
  • Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, talking, seeing, and hearing.

Other:
  • Mostly regular and weekend hours, occasionally working evenings and holiday hours as needed.
  • Working environment includes inside of building with semi- controlled temperatures and outside conditions with varying weather and temperatures.
