Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for performing clinical laboratory testing in a fast-paced hospital and academic medical center environment. Ensures accuracy, quality, and timely reporting of results across core laboratory specialties, including blood gas, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, and blood bank procedures. Utilizes advanced instrumentation and technology to support patient care for trauma, transplant, pediatric, and oncology services. Maintains compliance with accreditation and certification requirements while supporting quality initiatives. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable diagnostic data for optimal patient outcomes.


Essential Functions

Maintains competency in core laboratory areas and follows established policies and procedures.

Prioritizes and processes specimens to meet turnaround time requirements.

Performs quality control, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance with proper documentation.

Troubleshoots and repairs laboratory instruments to minimize downtime.

Monitors and ensures adherence to specimen procurement, handling, transport, and processing protocols.

Reviews and documents results, identifies errors, and escalates issues as needed.

Communicates clearly with staff and patient care providers regarding procedures, workflow, and critical values.

Maintains confidentiality and adheres to professional and safety standards.

Completes competency assessments, continuing education, and reviews procedure updates.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, biology, or a related field

Master's degree in laboratory science is preferred


Experience Requirement

2-3 years of experience in clinical laboratory, or a relevant area


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
