Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Surface Systems Engineer with deep specialization in wellhead design to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in the full lifecycle of wellhead systems, from conceptual drafting through detailed design calculations, with a proven track record in shale plays and High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) environments. This role is critical for delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective surface systems that support our drilling and production operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the detailed engineering design of wellhead systems, including casing heads, tubing heads, Christmas trees, and associated components.
  • Perform comprehensive design calculations (pressure ratings, material selection, load analysis, thermal expansion, fatigue, etc.) in compliance with API 6A, API 17D, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Develop and review detailed engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing specifications using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
  • Provide technical support for wellhead selection, configuration, and customization for shale development projects.
  • Conduct engineering assessments for HPHT applications, including material compatibility, seal performance, and thermal cycling analysis.
  • Collaborate with drilling, completions, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of wellhead systems with downhole and surface facilities.
  • Participate in technical reviews, HAZOPs, design risk assessments, and failure mode analyses.
  • Evaluate new technologies, vendors, and materials for wellhead applications to drive innovation and cost optimization.
  • Ensure all designs comply with regulatory requirements, company standards, and industry best practices for safety and environmental performance.
  • Provide field support during installation, testing, and commissioning of wellhead equipment as needed.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of internal design guidelines and best practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 5+ years of direct experience in wellhead detailed engineering, covering the full spectrum from drafting to advanced design calculations.
  • Proven expertise in shale systems (multi-pad, horizontal wells, frac-resistant designs, etc.).
  • Strong experience with High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) wellhead applications, including material selection for sour service and extreme conditions.
  • In-depth knowledge of API 6A, API 17D, ASME, NACE, and other relevant standards.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools for design and analysis (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, Mathcad, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with major wellhead OEMs and understanding of manufacturing processes.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with advanced wellhead technologies such as expandable wellheads, metal-to-metal seals, or subsea tie-back systems.
  • Familiarity with digital tools (PLM systems, 3D modeling, simulation software).
  • Knowledge of upstream project execution from concept through detailed design and execution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth in a dynamic energy company.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge projects in shale and HPHT developments.
  • We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
