Job description

LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is forging an American energy future with integrity, innovation, and positive impact. Born in Texas in 2003, we own and operate over 30 utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects in local communities across the United States, totaling 4 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.

Job Summary:
The Solar Technician is responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, including inverter stations, combiner boxes, and weather stations, to include diagnosing and troubleshooting system issues using SCADA and on-site testing tools.
Responsibilities:
  • Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and in accordance with site operating procedures
  • Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSAs, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation to ensure safe maintenance and repair execution
  • Conduct inspections and thermal imaging to detect potential electrical and mechanical failures
  • Replace and repair system components such as fuses, wiring, circuit breakers, and modules
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities using CMMS and reporting tools
  • Proactively identify and recommend improvements to job-specific processes and procedures
  • Perform balance of plant (BOP) and switchyard work as required
  • Perform electrical testing as necessary, including insulation and thermal testing
  • Use Microsoft Office and computer software tools in support of communication, documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Identify gaps in safety standards and recognize safety risks in the environment
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and perform immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with site protocols for access, HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections
  • Be available to support operations outside traditional hours, including emergent abnormal conditions and O&M issues
  • Operate mobile equipment such as mowers, forklifts, tractors, excavators, and motor vehicles
  • Assist in vegetation management and site upkeep where applicable
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools, spare parts, and consumables
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing
  • Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance; substation maintenance
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
  • Must be competent in electrical safety
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
  • Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Frequent oral and written communications
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
  • Must be adaptive to new technologies and methods
  • Must take ownership of responsibilities and look beyond the work task, with regards to discovering new opportunities for corrective work

Preferred:
  • Associate degree in engineering or related field from an accredited US school other than correspondence or internet
  • Technical certification in Electrical Technology, Renewable Energy, or related field
  • OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training
  • Knowledge of SMA, Sungrow, or similar inverter platforms

โ€ข Physical Work: Perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying items up to 50 lbs. Work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
