ABOUT
The Part-Time Lab Coordinator, Physics, is responsible for managing the daily operations and instructional support of the college's engineering and physical sciences laboratories. This position ensures that lab activities run smoothly, safely, and effectively to support student learning and faculty instruction. The coordinator prepares and organizes materials, models, specimens, and equipment for multiple course sections, maintaining a high standard of accuracy, cleanliness, and safety within the lab environment.
This is a part-time position and is subject to a maximum of 18 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Organizes laboratory supplies in the laboratories and prep rooms/stock rooms.
• Responsible for the setup and teardown of laboratories every week.
• Responsible for maintaining laboratory supplies daily.
• Maintains/repairs laboratory equipment, as necessary.
• Arranges for laboratory equipment maintenance and repair.
• Disposes of laboratory wastes according to safety guidelines.
• Oversees student laboratory assistants during scheduled shifts and trains them in safe laboratory practices.
• Serves as department resource to faculty, staff, and students regarding the laboratory procedures/guidelines.
• Under the guidance of faculty, prepares requisition requests for purchase orders pertaining to laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Maintains records of purchase orders.
• Maintains an up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Maintains SDS books in the laboratories.
• Attends department meetings and other meetings pertaining to laboratory matters.

Work Environment: Laboratory setting, with work rarely outside normal business hours.
Physical Demands: Prolonged walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 20lbs regularly and 40 pounds occasionally, and repetitive motion.

WHO YOU ARE
Required Education & Experience
Associate degree and one (1) year of related laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position may be considered.
Preferred Education & Experience
Experience in laboratory coordination or teaching assistance.
Bachelor's degree in geology, engineering, physics, environmental science, or related field.
Knowledge of OSHA and institutional laboratory safety standards.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Additional Job-Specific Requirements
Knowledge of and experience with standard laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of current laboratory methods and basic first-aid procedures.

Part-Time Retirement

Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company.
