Job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our product testing team at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories in Government Services. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving test systems to ensure the highest quality and reliability of our power system protection products. You will work with a team of test engineers, evaluate prototype behavior, analyze test data, and troubleshoot equipment when subjected to the rigors of high-impact shock, acoustics, or other extreme environmental conditions.


US Citizenship Required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform the following mechanical engineering functions:
-- assembly design
-- plastic and metal part design
-- tolerance studies
-- thermal analysis and design
-- mechanical shock and vibration analysis

2. Review, support, approve and provide recommendations for improvements to documentation, mechanical designs, and testing process.

3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and conduct prototype and confidence testing.

4. Write test plans, conduct design tests, and review results.

5. Coordinate qualification test efforts with customers and outside laboratories.

6. Maintain current and accurate project notebooks.

7. Mentor interns, designers, and associate engineers.

8. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

9. Understand. Create. Simplify.

10. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
2+ years' experience in three or more of the following areas:
-- heat transfer
-- materials and processes
-- mechanics

-- acoustics
-- computer-aided design

-- statistical analysis
Strong problem solving skills
Strong project management experience
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years SolidWorks experience
Environmental testing experience

Thermal modelling

Finite Element Analysis

Familiarity with MIL-SPEC requirements

Pay Range Data:

Mechanical Engineer: $97,000 - $144,000

Lead Mechanical Engineer: $115,000 - $170,000

Development Lead Engineer: $136,000 - $201,000

Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
