Job Summary
The Hardware (HW) Engineer designs, develops, documents, and tests electronic hardware for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)/ Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems. Designs and tests analog and digital circuitry used in precision metrology, and interfaces with Radio Frequency (RF) communications & embedded computer devices. Circuit design involves power supplies, serial communication protocols, signal conditioning, RF circuits, transceivers, power management, low power, sensor technologies, small signal, transient protection, mains connections, and microcontroller interfaces. Responsible for R&D hardware within completes solutions as part of a cross-functional team working with Firmware, Mechanical, and Manufacturing. Collaborate with team members and other R&D teams in design, development, and validation of complete Smart Grid solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Circuit design including circuit simulation, schematic capture, and PCB layout tools.
• Electrical verification testing using lab equipment such as power supplies, environmental chambers, industry specific test boards, and RF/analog test equipment.
• Hands-on bench testing and soldering of printed circuit board assemblies and components.
• Certification of products to FCC and electrical safety standards (ANSI, UL, IEC, etc.).
• Generation of manufacturing tests and specifications.
• Regular use of Microsoft Office tools.
• Contribute to component selection, product design, development, documentation, and validation.
• Work on agile development teams, collaborating with multiple cross-discipline architecture teams to develop hardware as part of L+G Smart Grid solutions.
• Contribute to area-specific continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to innovative technology and solutions development and/or validation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience with lab equipment - DC power supplies, oscilloscope, and digital multimeter.
• Experience with schematic capture tools and circuit simulation (SPICE).
• Must be able to read schematics and identify standard electrical components.
• Knowledge of fundamental theories of analog circuits, power supplies, microcontrollers, high frequency signal characteristics, magnetics, and digital signal characteristics.
• Knowledge of development processes, tools, and related frameworks.
• Knowledge of relevant development and/or validation methodologies.
• Knowledge of AMI and Smart Grid Systems and Solutions.
• Must be proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to understand data effectively to solve problems and support ideas.
• Ability to understand the feature base and deliver assigned improvements.
• Ability to design well-organized testing methodologies.
• Ability to complete\validate medium features with minimal oversight.
• Experience with soldering electronics is preferred.
• Experience with PowerPoint, Visio, and LabView is preferred.

Education and Experience:
• At least 1 - 5 years of relevant experience required.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent.

Pay is in the range of $74,200 - $100,287 per year. The position is eligible for a 401(k) match and consideration for an annual bonus. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
