Internship Signal Processing information

What is an Internship in Signal Processing?

An Internship in Signal Processing is a temporary position, usually for students or recent graduates, where individuals gain hands-on experience working with the analysis, interpretation, and manipulation of signals such as audio, images, or sensor data. Interns typically support engineers and researchers in designing algorithms, running experiments, and developing software or hardware solutions. These internships help participants build practical skills and industry knowledge, often serving as a stepping stone to full-time roles in signal processing, communications, or related fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Signal Processing, and why are they important?

To thrive as an intern in signal processing, you need a solid background in mathematics, digital signal processing concepts, and programming, typically gained through coursework in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, and tools such as Simulink or LabVIEW is often required, along with any relevant coursework or certifications. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and teamwork are important soft skills that set candidates apart. These competencies ensure you can effectively analyze, interpret, and develop signal processing solutions in real-world engineering environments.

What types of projects do interns typically work on in a Signal Processing internship?

Signal Processing interns often work on projects involving the analysis, filtering, and interpretation of signals such as audio, images, or sensor data. These projects may include developing algorithms for noise reduction, feature extraction, or data compression under the guidance of experienced engineers. Interns typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to both research and practical implementation tasks, which helps them gain real-world experience and technical skills relevant to the industry.

Powered by low-band licensed spectrum, NextNav's positioning and timing technologies can deliver accurate, reliable and resilient 3D PNT solutions for critical infrastructure, GPS resiliency and commercial use cases.
At NextNav we are looking for a creative, and passionate intern to join a project centered around Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The candidate will closely work with NextNav's AI/ML engineering team to develop solutions focused on improving performance, accuracy and efficiency. This individual will be joining from our Santa Clara, CA office and working closely with our Paris, France office.
In this role, you will be working with high-precision ground-truth data and Networks to construct engineering and model training for NextNav's future. Success in this role will be measured by expected outputs include a reproducible benchmarking pipeline, comparative results across different model architectures, and a concise recommendation identifying the most promising models for further investigation.
Must have Requirements

  • An enrolled PhD student with Computer Science,Electronics & Communications,Data Science, AI/ML, or similar related field.
  • Strong background in statistics, signal processing, and AI/machine learning
  • Hands-onexperiencewithdeeplearningtraining andoptimization
  • Proficiency in Python, including experience with machine-learning libraries such as scikit-learn,PyTorch, or JAX, and MATLAB
  • Flexibility to work acrosstimezones - the chosen candidate will have to collaborate extensively with teammates based out of NextNav Paris (France) and work out of Santa Clara(USA).
  • Internship duration: 3-6 months.

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous experience working Research and/or other AI/ML Projects
  • Familiarity with modern architectures (transformers, state-space models, and generative models such as GANs, diffusion models, normalizing flows, and autoencoders) is a plus.

NextNavoffers acompensation designed to support our employees in all aspects of their life inside and outside of work. The actual offer, including the compensation package, isdeterminedbased on multiple factors, such as the candidate's skills and experience and other business considerations.
