HiFyve is hiring an Automation Engineer for an Industrial Manufacturing Equipment Company!

Salary: $115k-$165k/yr based on experience

Shift: Full-time position; must be flexible depending on project and customer needs

Location: Kansas City Metro / North America with occasional international travel (Germany/Europe)

10-30% travel

Role Overview

Responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and support of industrial automation and control systems for industrial manufacturing equipment and integrated production lines. This role involves developing PLC, HMI, motion control, and safety control software while collaborating with global engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable automation solutions.

We’re looking for candidates with several years of focused experience working with Schneider, Beckhoff, Bosch, CODESYS, and Siemens automation technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience developing and supporting PLC-based systems, machine controls, and industrial automation solutions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Design and develop PLC, HMI, motion control, and safety control software

Configure and integrate third-party equipment into complete production line solutions

Participate in machine commissioning, FATs, SATs, and startup activities

Troubleshoot and resolve automation, controls, and communication issues

Support software standardization and modularization initiatives

Collaborate with global engineering teams to ensure alignment with corporate standards

Create and maintain technical documentation, software specifications, and commissioning reports

Provide technical support to service, applications, and modifications teams

Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on machine performance and software quality

Drive quick problem resolution by facilitating communication with German software development teams

Make software changes following predefined standards

Provide technical support and troubleshooting for automation systems as needed

Maintain strong professional relationships with customers and internal engineering teams

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred

3+ years of proven work experience in automation engineering, controls engineering, or related field accepted

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Several years of focused experience with Schneider, Beckhoff, Bosch, CODESYS, and Siemens automation technologies preferred

Experience programming PLC-based automation systems required

Knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming standards required

Experience with industrial networking and communications including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, and Modbus TCP required

Siemens TIA Portal and S7 PLC experience preferred

Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Machine Expert experience preferred

Beckhoff TwinCAT experience preferred

Motion control and servo systems experience preferred

Machine safety systems experience preferred

Strong understanding of pneumatic and electrical controls and machine design

Excellent understanding of modular and scalable programming methods

Familiarity with object-oriented programming preferred

Experience commissioning full production lines and individual machines preferred

Strong systematic problem-solving ability with effective time management skills

Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, clients, and management

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

German as a second language is a plus

Other Requirements

Valid driver’s license required

Real ID-compliant driver’s license or TSA-approved alternative identification required for travel

Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one required

Ability to travel throughout North America with occasional international travel
