Automation Engineer

Location: Marshall, MI

Seeking experienced Automation Engineers for a new battery manufacturing facility in Marshall, Michigan.

Candidates must possess a dual skill set in Ford FAST, Siemens TIA Portal, and FANUC robot programming. Each Automation Engineer will be responsible for the complete automation of an assigned manufacturing cell, including programming, integration, troubleshooting, and support for both the Siemens PLC and FANUC industrial robot.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of assigned manufacturing cell automation.
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot Siemens PLC programming using TIA Portal.
  • Program, configure, and optimize FANUC industrial robots.
  • Apply Ford FAST standards to automation controls and programming.
  • Integrate PLC, robot, safety, and manufacturing equipment within each automated cell.
  • Perform controls system commissioning, startup, testing, and validation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, robotic, PLC, communication, and automation-related issues.
  • Optimize automated equipment for reliability, cycle time, quality, and production performance.
  • Support equipment installation, launch activities, and ongoing manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain accurate controls documentation, program backups, and system change records.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, and process engineering teams.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with applicable safety, quality, and production requirements.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience as an Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer, or Robotics Engineer in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Ford FAST programming standards.
  • Advanced experience programming Siemens PLCs using Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Hands-on experience with FANUC robot programming, setup, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the complete automation scope of a manufacturing cell.
  • Experience with PLC programming, robot integration, and industrial automation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment, control panels, industrial networks, and machine safety.
  • Experience with controls commissioning, equipment startup, debugging, and production support.
  • Ability to diagnose complex automation and robotic system issues independently.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Marshall, Michigan.
