Internship Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist information

What does an internship seismic data processing geophysicist do?

An Internship Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist assists in analyzing and interpreting seismic data collected from geophysical surveys, primarily for oil, gas, and mineral exploration. Interns learn to use specialized software to process raw seismic signals and help convert them into subsurface images that geoscientists use to identify rock layers and potential resource locations. They often work as part of a team, supporting senior geophysicists by preparing data, generating reports, and troubleshooting data quality issues while gaining practical experience in geophysical methods and data analysis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship seismic data processing geophysicist?

To thrive as an Internship Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist, you need a solid background in geophysics or a related field, strong analytical abilities, and foundational knowledge of seismic data principles. Familiarity with industry-standard seismic processing software (such as ProMAX, Petrel, or SeisSpace) and basic programming skills in languages like Python or MATLAB are highly beneficial. Attention to detail, problem-solving aptitude, and effective communication are essential soft skills for interpreting complex data and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure accurate seismic analysis and contribute to successful exploration and development projects within the geoscience industry.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as an internship seismic data processing geophysicist?

As an Internship Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist, you will typically work alongside experienced geophysicists to process and analyze seismic data collected from field surveys. Your responsibilities may include using specialized software to clean, filter, and interpret raw seismic signals, assisting with quality control, and generating preliminary subsurface images. You’ll often participate in team meetings to discuss project progress and may be asked to present your findings. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in seismic workflows and provides opportunities to learn about current industry technologies and practices.

What is the difference between Internship Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist vs Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist?

We are the home of ambitious, passionate, and innovative world shapers.
With an unmatched breadth and depth of engineering, advisory and science-based expertise, our global minds unite to power local solutions. We are pathfinders and impact makers.
We are Visioneers. We are WSP.
The Opportunity
Shape Something Different - Join our Energy subsector, a vital part of WSP's ERI (Energy, Resources & Industry) sector, delivering solutions that power Canada's energy transition. From power generation, upstream and downstream oil and gas to renewable energy markets, we partner with clients across the full project lifecycle-designing, engineering, and innovating for a low-carbon future.
Are you ready to help shape the infrastructure that fuels communities today-and transforms how we power tomorrow? As an Intermediate Structural Engineer on our Energy team, you'll join a powerhouse group of innovators, problem solvers, and world builders who thrive on tackling complex challenges across renewable energy, power generation, and energy modernization projects.  Here, your expertise won't just support projects-it will energize entire systems and play a key role in building resilient, future ready solutions that advance our clients' missions and strengthen the communities we serve.
This position can be located in any of our Canadian offices, with preference for our Alberta and British Columbia locations.
Your Impact
You'll prepare structural design calculations, engineering specifications, material take-offs (MTOs), and technical deliverables in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
You'll support project planning, scheduling, and budget tracking activities while contributing to the successful delivery of project milestones.
You'll assist in developing practical engineering solutions to technical challenges and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across projects and processes.
You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the design and execution of energy infrastructure projects, including renewable energy and power generation facilities.
You'll participate in structural and civil engineering design activities for a variety of facilities and infrastructure, including concrete foundations, piling systems, and steel structures.
You'll conduct site visits, inspections, and field assessments as required to support design development, construction, and commissioning activities.
You'll prepare technical reports, calculations, design packages, work plans, and tender documentation to support project delivery.
You'll coordinate with designers, drafters, and technical support staff to ensure project requirements are clearly communicated and executed.
You'll build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and project team members.
You'll contribute to quality assurance and quality control processes, helping to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of project deliverables.
You'll review engineering documents and drawings for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
You'll support the development of junior team members by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and participating in peer reviews when appropriate.
You'll communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders, responding to technical inquiries and supporting the successful delivery of project objectives.
