Position Summary
Voyant is looking for a server-side Java developer to help design, build, and enhance our core financial calculation engine. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex modeling problems and translating financial rules into reliable, performant code that powers real-world planning tools used by advisors and institutions.
This is a full-time on-site position located in Austin, TX.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Development
  • Design, implement, and maintain Java-based services that support core financial calculations, including projections, tax models, and scenario analysis
  • Develop backend components that power client-facing features, such as our reporting platform suite
  • Ensure code is clean, testable, and optimized for accuracy and performance
  • Collaborate with UI and API teams to deliver consistent and reliable data to end-user experiences

Domain Modeling & Problem Solving
  • Translate complex financial planning logic and regulatory requirements into scalable, maintainable software models
  • Work closely with analysts and application owners to clarify rules, identify edge cases, and validate outcomes
  • Investigate and resolve issues in financial calculations and downstream report outputs
  • Bring curiosity and a strong interest in finance to help shape how financial concepts are modeled in code

Technical Quality & Maintenance
  • Write unit tests, document logic flows, and participate in code reviews to support long-term maintainability
  • Provide detailed QA handoffs, including test plans and validation steps, to ensure comprehensive coverage
  • Improve platform stability, performance, and security across RESTful services, reporting infrastructure, and data integrations
  • Investigate issues and clarify functionality by partnering with internal/external user groups and support teams
  • Communicate technical progress, trade-offs, and outcomes clearly throughout the development lifecycle
  • Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities in accordance with secure coding best practices

Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with backend engineers, analysts, and QA to deliver reliable, production-ready solutions that meet real-world needs
  • Play an active role in agile ceremonies, architecture reviews, and design discussions to help shape technical direction and team outcomes
  • Contribute to a culture of growth by asking thoughtful questions, sharing feedback, and embracing continuous learning

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of Java development experience (including strong internships or academic projects)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to reason through complex systems
  • Interest in finance, whether through professional experience, academic exposure, or personal curiosity
  • Experience working with financial logic, simulations, or domain modeling (a plus, not required)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Familiarity with Spring, Hibernate, and MySQL (or other RDBMS)
  • Exposure to Git and agile development environments
  • Comfortable owning implementation of well-defined business rules with high accuracy expectations
  • Must like dogs (they're in the office every day)

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $135,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
