Job Description

Job Summary: The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up the production line, collaborating with the production line team, reading and understanding job tickets, and ensuring all jobs are processed properly to customer specifications per the job ticket.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Reads, understands, and accurately follows Job Ticket Instructions
  • Reviews ticket for special instructions to the job -
  • aware of job priorities and/or quality concerns for relative job
  • Correctly fills out and completes Job Ticket and necessary production paperwork
  • Completes first card sign off, beginning of shift card and data checks
  • Sets up and adjust layouts to match data proofs, diagnose and troubleshoot errors and start up and shut down the production line; if changes are made ensure proper approvals are performed.
  • Check machine for proper working order i.e. Cameras, Feeders, Line belts (Imaging and Affixing), Glue Heads (affixing), Knives and Dies are sharp make adjustments if machine is not functioning correctly; call Maintenance if needed
  • Verify job duties with production assistants at their stations; provide verbal instructions to tasks that needs to be done differently, ensure understanding of expectations
  • Ensure the product meets customer specifications. If any concerns arise, notify your Lead or Supervisor
  • During production, periodically check the quality of the products ensuring they meet customer expectations and check for defects
  • If job is finished, fill out paperwork completely and remove job from SPS Program. Clean the staging area and remove any products from the previous job and record waste.
  • Near the end of shift, stage line for next shift i.e. Trays, masters, boxes, products
  • Maintain cleanliness of the production line
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with Production Supervisor, Data Processing, Maintenance and Management teams
  • Pass off any information related to the job to next shift operator via Notes or Verbal communication
  • Send shift report to the supervisor and team leads at the end of the shift
  • Adheres to all safety rules, regulations and company policies
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous print industry experience
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills, accuracy and quality conscious
  • Strong communication skills - communicates clearly with others and works as a team member
  • Sufficient computer skills to adjust machine according to product
  • Reliable, dependable and punctual
  • Detail and task orientated
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and a Priority List
  • Understands job database software
  • Ability to navigate through PC screens and menus
  • Understanding of the delivery system equipment including: belts, timing, sensors, vacuums, and shingling
  • Knowledgeable about ink changes, purge process and bad print diagnosis
  • Has advanced knowledge of physical encode unit set up (belts, read/write heads) and date (encoding) set up (data positioning, start sentinel and amplitude)
  • Has advanced knowledge and understanding of Version Camera position and font training, Print Camera positioning and font training and Cognex Label Camera positioning and training
  • Ability to work over-time and/or weekends as needed

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position and move about on a concrete floor for 100% of shift
  • Ability to push, lift and pull up to 30 lbs. repetitively during shift
  • Ability to move and position self to operate on, under and around machines
