Job Summary and Qualifications

As a highly-skilled and compassionate PICC Nurse you will provide critical care expertise along with excellent patient care serving on our PICC team. You will demonstrate clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to providing quality patient care. You will be part of a team that pulls together to provide a quality patient care experience.

In this role:

  • Primary responsibility for the Vascular Access Team nurse includes patient assessment for vascular access, PICC placement and troubleshooting, protocol development based on Standards of Practice, staff education, and data collection.
  • Serves as a consultant working directly with the nursing staff to identify, educate, and promote best practice in Vascular Access. The Vascular Access Team is composed of registered nurses who are specifically trained in infusion therapy access.
  • The Vascular Access RN exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert clinical practice, strong leadership skills, and management activities. The delivery of care is based on criteria that is age appropriate and is also based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and leaning needs of individual patients. The vascular access decision process as based upon by the St. Mark's Hospital infusion therapy process.
  • Maintains close collaboration with infection control coordinator.
  • Coordinates the assignment of patient flow to the nursing units. Maintains responsibility of patient flow and coordination.
  • Maintains close collaboration with the bed flow coordinator and nursing supervisor.
  • Assists with bridging patient care when needed such as TAVR patients. May assist with patient procedures, such as cardioversions, in emergent situations.

Qualifications:

  • Current Utah State RN license in good standing.
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification preferred. Must obtain BLS or BCLS within 30 days of hire and maintain certification.
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Advanced Life Support Course (ALS or ACLS) and Certification preferred. Must obtain ALS or ACLS within 30 days of hire and maintain certification.
  • Completion of St. Marks Vascular access program and is able to demonstrate competency within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum of two years clinical and IV placement experience required.
  • Emergency room or Critical Care experience preferred, but not required.
