Job Summary:

As an Electrical CAD Drafter, you will support the Electrical Engineering team in producing accurate, professional electrical documentation for custom industrial automation and process equipment. Working under the guidance of experienced designers and engineers, you will create and maintain wiring schematics, panel layouts, bill of materials, and drawing packages using AutoCAD Electrical. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build your skills in industrial electrical design while contributing to high-quality projects serving the aluminum processing, combustion, and non-ferrous metals industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and revise electrical wiring schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, and related drawings using AutoCAD Electrical based on direction from engineers and redlined markups.
  • Assist in developing and updating bill of materials (BOMs) and organizing complete drawing release packages for production.
  • Maintain drawing files, standards, templates, and version control in accordance with company procedures and quality requirements.
  • Update existing drawings and documentation to reflect engineering changes, as-built conditions, or customer requirements.
  • Support the creation and revision of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) as skills develop.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Design Engineers, Controls team, Mechanical Engineering, and Assembly personnel to ensure drawings meet project and manufacturing needs.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and actively learn best practices for industrial equipment documentation and electrical standards.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate, and error-free work.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD; AutoCAD Electrical experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical symbols, schematic conventions, and panel layout best practices.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Eagerness to learn industrial electrical standards (NEC), control systems documentation, and custom equipment design processes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; able to follow direction and incorporate feedback effectively.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel for BOMs and Word for documentation).
  • Prior experience or coursework in manufacturing, industrial automation, or electrical systems is a plus.

Education & Experience:

  • Associate degree in CAD/Drafting Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 0–2 years of professional drafting experience. Internships, co-ops, or strong academic/portfolio work will be considered.
  • A portfolio or examples of electrical schematic or panel layout drawings is highly desirable.
