Interns will gain exposure to real-world projects in civil design, construction inspection, field investigations, and planning. Depending on the current projects, you may assist the design team with roadway and bridge design, stormwater drainage, utility coordination, and site grading projects.
This is an exceptional opportunity for students passionate about infrastructure and public service to learn from professionals in a collaborative environment and explore various facets of the civil engineering industry.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Assist in the preparation of engineering reports and studies, including but not limited to Traffic Impact Analyses, signal warrant analyses, etc.
โ€ข Perform traffic volume development calculations in Excel.
โ€ข Utilize engineering software (such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation) to develop analyses exhibits and drawings under the supervision of senior engineers.
โ€ข Utilize traffic engineering software programs such as Synchro, HCS, Sidra, and Vistro to prepare traffic analyses models.
โ€ข Prepare GIS maps for engineering reports and studies.
โ€ข Conduct research and gather data for projects, including site visits, surveys, and investigations.
โ€ข Collaborate with project managers and engineers to complete design tasks on schedule.
โ€ข Support the preparation of technical documents and presentations for clients and stakeholders.

Career Development - ICE Mentor:
Internships do not always include mentorship; however, we believe it is a crucial part to the success of our program. ICE interns are paired with more experienced staff members in order to provide guidance and support throughout the internship process. They will report directly to a team lead who will provide regular feedback, special training, guidance, evaluation, and support. The lead will provide information about their career path, as well as assisting the intern with exploring career opportunities at the firm, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources.
We foster collaborative learning environment where interaction with our dedicated team of engineers encourages students to develop ideas and make mistakes. Collaborative learning also involves learning from peers and fellow interns. The primary goal of the internship is to gain as much experience as possible. While an intern may not have major tasks assigned to them, they should pay close attention to all the steps that go into completing the project. At the end of the internship, the intern should be confident to individually manage project tasks and work independently. ICE's dedicated recruiting team will assist the intern with full-time employment opportunities, once they are ready to graduate.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Visits to job sites may require walking on uneven terrain, navigating construction areas, and maintaining balance on varying surfaces. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days a week.
Why Build Your Career with ICE?
At ICE, interns are not observers-they are contributors. We take pride in cultivating talent and shaping the next generation of engineering professionals.
You'll benefit from:
โ€ข A collaborative culture grounded in teamwork and shared success
โ€ข Exposure to high-impact infrastructure projects across the Southeast and beyond
โ€ข Networking and mentoring relationships that support future career goals
โ€ข Pathways to full-time employment post-graduation
