Job Title: RF Filter Design Engineer
Department: Design Engineer
Reports to: Director of Engineering
Job Class: Exempt (Salary)
Pay Rate: Dependent upon experience
Location: Orlando, FL (On-site)
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the design and development of RF and Microwave filter products. Leads project teams in a fast-paced team environment to deliver new products to customers on time, meeting or exceeding all requirements and resulting in profitable products when transitioned to production.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Apply technical principles of engineering and electronics and utilize RF synthesis and simulation software packages to design, simulate and prototype new products with emphasis in RF filters.
  • Perform detailed analysis of compliance for electrical, mechanical, environmental and regulatory requirements (compliance matrix) for all new products being quoted.
  • Estimate total costs, including material, labor, test and development costs as well as lead time for new products to be quoted.
  • Lead design and development projects to completion following the company's documented design and development process.
  • Optimize new products for performance, lead time and cost.
  • Provide guidance to assemblers and engineering technicians during the prototype build and optimization phase.
  • Interface with Manufacturing Engineering to develop any new processes required to support new products.
  • Interface with purchasing department to ensure required materials for prototypes are procured and delivered on time.
  • Provide timely updates on progress of projects.
  • Lead and/or participate in required project meetings: Project kick-offs, peer design reviews, pre-ship reviews, etc...
  • Provide necessary design engineering support during transition of new products to production.
  • Support mature products already in production that need design engineering support for obsolete components, quality or reliability issues or further optimization.
  • Educate, train, mentor and coach other design engineers and technicians that have less experience or knowledge in the field.
  • Stay up to date on technology and industry trends and propose new products to management that can give company a competitive advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Familiarity in Microsoft Office Applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point is required.
  • Working knowledge of RF/Microwave filter synthesis and simulation software, with experience in lumped-element and/or distributed-element designs.
  • Understanding of technologies and processes used in the design and fabrication of filters and related RF products.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced engineering and production environment.
  • Hands-on bench skills.
  • Knowledge of various lumped-element filter topologies and design methodologies.
  • Experience with cavity and dielectric resonator filters used in telecommunications, military, or avionics applications.
  • Experience designing high-power filters (300 watts or greater) and/or filter miniaturization.
  • Strong CAD skills with electromagnetic analysis tools.
  • Understanding of radio architecture, avionics and military communication systems, and radar systems.
  • Must be able to work with ITAR data without a license.

Education, Experience and Training:
  • Bachelor's or Master Degre in Electrical Engineer (BSEE or MSEE preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in RF/Microwave industry, including a minimum of 5 years in filter design.
  • Experience with integrated microwave filter assemblies is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as required.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, machine controls, and measuring instruments.
  • Work is performed in a combination of office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, fumes, and related by-products.
