Job description

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in data center design to join our data center procurement team, which supports our growing development pipeline. This group is responsible for establishing equipment standards, evaluating long-lead vendors, and driving the technical decisions that shape our OFCI procurement strategy. This individual will play a key role in the design, technical evaluation, and delivery of complex, mission-critical facilities and should have deep expertise in HVAC systems, thermal management, and large-scale mechanical infrastructure. This position is based full-time at our Hudson Yards headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate mechanical design for hyperscale projects from concept through construction.

  • Develop and review HVAC system layouts, load calculations, and equipment selections, ensuring alignment with performance, reliability, and energy-efficiency targets.

  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA).

  • Collaborate closely with internal project managers, electrical engineers, architects, and external consultants to deliver integrated and cost-effective solutions.

  • Evaluate utility and infrastructure requirements, including chilled water, condenser water, and air-side systems.

  • Review and approve submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings during construction.

  • Support commissioning and integrated systems testing to validate system performance, redundancy, and efficiency.

  • Participate in value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.

  • Stay current on innovations in mechanical systems, sustainability strategies, and energy-optimization technologies.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; PE license preferred.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with a focus on data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale commercial infrastructure.
  • Deep understanding of cooling and air distribution systems, hydronic systems, and energy-efficient design principles.
  • Understand, critique, and manage the development of energy models to inform design decisions and support the preparation of project OPEX budgets.
  • Familiarity with HVAC load modeling and BIM software (e.g., TRACE 3D Plus, Revit MEP).
  • Strong technical writing, organization, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
