Job description

SUMMER 2026 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Macmillan Publishers is excited to offer paid, full-time, remote internship opportunities for our Summer 2026 session! While these positions are remote-friendly, interns hired locally will have the opportunity to work from our NY, NY office if interested.

We are looking for passionate individuals to join us in departments on the Trade side of our business including Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Art & Design, Sales, Managing/Production Editorial, Production, Publishing Operations, Subrights, Creative Services, and Author Events. In our Shared Services functional areas, opportunities may exist in departments such as: ESG, Technology/Platform Development, Legal, People and Culture (HR, DEI, Communications).

THE EXPERIENCE
Interns will become familiar with the inner workings of their assigned teams, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the publishing industry. Beyond daily tasks, our 2026 program also features:

Industry & Development Workshops: Participate in curated sessions designed to build your professional toolkit and deepen your knowledge of the industry trade.
Summer Project: Collaborative opportunities to contribute to a summer project, allowing you to see pieces of the publishing process from start to finish.
* Networking: Connect virtually with employees across various departments to build a diverse professional network.

PROGRAM DETAILS

  • Dates: June 1st, 2026 – August 21st, 2026
  • Duration: 12 weeks
  • Compensation: $17/hour
  • Schedule: Full-time (up to 40 hours per week)
  • Flexibility: Some flexibility regarding duration may be available if needed

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
We are committed to building a diverse workforce and strongly encourage "non-traditional" internship applicants to apply. Whether you are a student, career-changer, returning to the workforce, or coming from a background outside the traditional academic path, we value your unique perspective.

The program is open to candidates who have graduated high school, are over 18, and are eligible to work in the U.S. We particularly encourage applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in publishing, including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, veterans, and people with disabilities. Applicants must be physically located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship; we are not able to sponsor visas at this time.

PARTNERING WITH WE NEED DIVERSE BOOKS (WNDB)
We are proud to continue our partnership with We Need Diverse Books for the 2026 Internship Grant Season.

Are you from a diverse background looking to work in children's or adult publishing? WNDB offers supplemental $3,000 grants to eligible interns. Learn more about how to apply for these grants here. Remote internships are applicable.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
To be considered, please submit the following three documents in PDF format:
1. Resume
2. Cover Letter
3. Response to Prompts (250–750 words total):
-Why are you interested in working at Macmillan?
-Whether it's a specific experience, skill or interest, how do you think you'd most contribute as a team member in this program?

Please note: Applications missing any of the three required documents will not be considered. If applying for Art or Design internships, please also attach your portfolio as a PDF.

This is a temporary contracted position; the successful candidate will be employed by Noor Staffing Group, LLC working remotely from anywhere in the United States.
