What are remote internships at SpaceX?

Remote internship positions at SpaceX allow students or recent graduates to gain real-world experience working on exciting aerospace projects from anywhere, rather than relocating to a SpaceX facility. Interns work with teams virtually, contributing to various departments such as engineering, software development, or business operations. These internships provide mentorship, professional development, and the chance to participate in meaningful work that supports SpaceX’s mission, all while working remotely. Eligibility, application requirements, and project assignments may vary depending on the specific role and department.

What types of projects do remote interns at SpaceX typically work on, and how is collaboration managed in a virtual setting?

Remote interns at SpaceX are often assigned to meaningful, real-world projects that align with their field of study, such as software development, data analysis, or engineering simulations. Collaboration is facilitated through virtual tools like video conferencing, project management platforms, and regular check-ins with mentors and team members. Interns participate in team meetings, present progress updates, and receive feedback, ensuring they remain closely integrated with their teams despite the remote environment. This structure helps interns gain practical experience while building strong professional relationships across the company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote intern at SpaceX, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Intern at SpaceX, you generally need strong academic performance in a relevant STEM field, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with programming languages, engineering software, or data analysis tools, as well as previous internship or project experience, is highly valuable. Excellent communication, teamwork, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and contributing to innovative projects. These skills and qualities are vital to effectively support SpaceX's ambitious goals, adapt to a fast-paced environment, and deliver meaningful results remotely.

Does SpaceX allow remote work?

SpaceX generally requires employees, including interns, to work on-site at its facilities, as hands-on technical skills and collaboration are essential. Remote work options are limited and typically not available for technical roles that involve spacecraft and rocket development.

Does SpaceX offer remote internships?

SpaceX internships are primarily on-site at their facilities, but some remote internship opportunities may be available depending on the role and project. Applicants should review specific internship listings for location and format details, as remote options are limited and typically require strong communication skills and relevant technical knowledge.

  • Integrate electronics design software to manufacturing equipment
  • Display ownership throughout and following the release process for applications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in full stack software development (internship and/or project experience is acceptable)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Programming experience in C#.NET, Python, Go, Java or similar object-oriented language
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery concepts
  • Expertise in designing software systems
  • Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & monitoring
  • Expertise in profiling and improving application performance
  • Experience with build systems (Make, Bazel) and package management tools (pip, npm)
  • Experience with UNIX-like operating systems
  • Experience working with in-stream data processing using Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar technologies
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar JavaScript framework
  • Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies
  • Experience with enterprise grade ERP systems
  • Experience integrating third-party industrial equipment (Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Fuji, Nordson, etc.)
  • Experience integrating third-party CAD Software (NX, Altium, Xpedition, etc.)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • This position is based in Redmond, WA (Seattle area), and requires being onsite full-time - hybrid and remote work will not be considered

You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks.
