Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Engineer, Development Lifecycle based in Netherlands.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering excellence, compliance, and large-scale system reliability, focused on making Ubuntu suitable for mission-critical environments such as automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics, and other highly regulated industries. You will lead initiatives that translate complex regulatory and certification requirements into practical engineering processes, tools, and standards adopted across multiple teams. Working closely with engineering leadership, you will help define how high-quality, secure, and certifiable software is built, measured, and continuously improved. This is a highly influential position where your work directly shapes engineering culture, delivery practices, and long-term product trustworthiness in safety-critical domains.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the definition and implementation of engineering processes that enable Ubuntu to meet strict compliance and certification requirements in regulated industries.
  • Translate complex standards and regulatory expectations (e.g., safety, quality, certification frameworks) into actionable engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to embed quality, reliability, and compliance considerations into the full development lifecycle.
  • Define and drive methodologies for measuring software quality, process effectiveness, and engineering performance.
  • Establish and continuously improve development lifecycle standards, tools, and workflows across multiple teams.
  • Partner with internal engineering leadership to implement continuous improvement initiatives across global projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external industry working groups, standards bodies, and strategic partners.
  • Influence engineering culture by promoting best practices in agile development, compliance readiness, and system reliability.

Requirements:

  • Strong background in software engineering combined with deep experience in engineering process management within agile environments.
  • Proven track record in leading compliance, certification, or safety-critical software initiatives.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO/IEC 25010, ASPICE, or similar quality and safety frameworks.
  • Experience working with Linux-based systems in production or engineering contexts.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to grow and mentor engineering teams.
  • Experience defining engineering metrics, KPIs, and quality measurement frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate in complex, multi-team environments.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Background in software development is considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in distributed, remote-first environments.

Benefits:

  • Fully remote working environment with global collaboration.
  • Competitive compensation with annual reviews and potential performance-based bonuses.
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
  • Annual holiday leave and parental leave policies.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wellness support.
  • Recognition rewards and performance-based incentives.
  • Opportunities to travel internationally for team sprints and company events.
  • Priority travel benefits for long-haul events.
  • Inclusive, global engineering culture focused on excellence and innovation.
  • Long-term career growth within a highly technical, mission-driven environment.
