What is an internship remote pen tester?

An Internship Remote Pen Tester is an entry-level cybersecurity professional who performs penetration testing (ethical hacking) tasks remotely, usually as part of an internship program. Their main responsibility is to identify and report security vulnerabilities in systems, networks, or applications under the guidance of experienced testers. Interns learn practical skills by simulating cyberattacks in a controlled environment, helping organizations strengthen their defenses. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity while working remotely.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on as a remote pen tester intern?

You may work on simulated attacks, review security policies, and participate in debrief meetings with the team. Collaboration typically happens via secure communication tools, and you'll likely receive mentorship from experienced security professionals. These experiences are designed to build your technical skills and understanding of real-world cybersecurity threats and responses.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship remote pen tester?

To thrive as an Internship Remote Pen Tester, you need foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles, networking, and vulnerability assessment, typically gained through coursework or certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker).
