Internship Remote Matlab Developer information

What is the difference between Internship Remote Matlab Developer vs Remote Data Analyst?

AspectInternship Remote Matlab DeveloperRemote Data Analyst
Required skillsMatlab programming, basic data analysis, engineering conceptsData analysis, statistical tools, Excel, SQL
Work environmentRemote, project-based, technical tasksRemote, data interpretation, reporting
Industry usageEngineering, research labs, academiaBusiness, finance, healthcare

While both roles involve data handling, an Internship Remote Matlab Developer focuses on programming and engineering tasks using Matlab, often in technical or research settings. In contrast, a Remote Data Analyst emphasizes interpreting data, creating reports, and using statistical tools. The choice depends on your skills and career goals in technical programming versus data interpretation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Remote Matlab Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Remote Matlab Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, especially in Matlab, along with a background in engineering, mathematics, or computer science. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, Matlab toolboxes, and basic data analysis or simulation tools is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, initiative, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in collaborative, virtual environments. These competencies ensure that you can contribute meaningfully to projects, adapt to remote workflows, and deliver reliable solutions.

What is an Internship Remote Matlab Developer?

An Internship Remote Matlab Developer is a student or recent graduate who works remotely to assist with programming tasks using MATLAB, a high-level language primarily used for numerical computing, data analysis, and algorithm development. These internships provide hands-on experience in coding, debugging, and developing solutions for real-world engineering or scientific problems. Interns typically collaborate with experienced developers or researchers, learning best practices in software development and gaining valuable skills for future careers. Working remotely allows interns to contribute from anywhere, offering flexibility and access to global opportunities.

What are some common challenges faced by remote MATLAB developer interns, and how can they be addressed?

Remote MATLAB developer interns often encounter challenges such as limited access to immediate mentorship, difficulty in understanding project requirements without in-person discussions, and managing time effectively across different time zones. To overcome these, it's important to proactively communicate with team members via scheduled video calls or messaging platforms, seek regular feedback, and utilize collaborative tools like shared code repositories and project management software. Establishing a consistent daily routine and setting clear goals also help interns stay organized and maintain productivity in a remote setting.

Job description

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver-The World's Most Experienced Driver-to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who'll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and you will report to a Team lead, Sensing Systems Test Engineering.

You will:

  • Own a significant portion of the sensor (mainly radar) verification and validation activities to support qualification of fully autonomous operations, for both recurring software releases and new hardware prototypes
  • Design, execute and debug automated tests across multiple platforms to verify sensing requirements, expose issues, and identify root causes
  • Work with systems engineers, systems test engineers, software engineers, hardware engineers and external vendor teams to strategize on, create, standardize and optimize automated testing methodologies supporting periodic onboard software deployment
  • Write reusable, high quality, sensor data analysis and test automation software (Python and/or C++)
  • Develop cohesive verification and validation plans, including test plans
  • Analyze test data and communicate the results in technical reports and presentations

You have:

  • A bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or other technical field OR equivalent practical experience
  • An advanced degree OR 8 years of equivalent practical experience
  • Experience analyzing data using Python or other high level language (e.g. Matlab, SQL, C++)
  • Experience in writing testable and maintainable software running in production level environment
  • Experience collaborating in projects with multiple non-colocated contributors and stakeholders
  • Experience with systems engineering verification and validation (V&V) methods

We prefer:

  • V&V test campaign coordination and execution
  • Familiarity with robotics, sensing, optics, or perception technologies
  • Experience debugging complex systems
  • Experience with simulation-based testing
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles or other autonomous systems
  • Experience with technical program management

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.
