Internship Remote Insurance information

What is a remote insurance internship?

A remote insurance internship is a temporary position where interns work virtually, often from home, to gain experience in the insurance industry. Interns may assist with tasks such as policy administration, claims processing, data analysis, or customer service. These internships provide hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship, and exposure to the workings of insurance companies, all without the need to commute to a physical office. Remote formats allow for flexibility and can be especially beneficial for students or individuals balancing other commitments.

What are some typical projects or tasks I might work on during a remote insurance internship?

As a remote insurance intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of tasks such as processing claims, conducting policy research, analyzing data, and supporting customer service teams. Many interns also help with administrative work, digital documentation, and learning about compliance requirements. You may collaborate with team members via virtual meetings and be assigned projects that develop your understanding of underwriting, risk assessment, or sales support. This hands-on experience helps build both industry knowledge and valuable remote work skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote insurance intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Insurance Intern, you generally need a basic understanding of insurance principles, strong organizational skills, and current enrollment in or recent completion of a relevant degree program. Familiarity with insurance software platforms, CRM systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are typically expected. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and self-motivation are standout soft skills in this remote setting. These skills enable accurate policy processing, efficient collaboration, and proactive learning, all of which are vital for success in a virtual insurance role.

About Ashokaย
Ashoka is the largest global network of leading social entrepreneurs-individuals withย new ideasย to systemically address the world's biggest challenges and the entrepreneurial skill to transform those ideas into national, regional, and global social impact. Over 40 years, Ashoka has supportedย nearly 4,000ย social entrepreneurs in more than 90 countries with solutions addressing society's most pressing issues. Ashoka's vision is a world in which Everyone is a Changemaker-a society that responds quickly and effectively to challenges, and where everyone has the freedom, confidence, and societal support to address any social problem.A core part of this work is ensuring that young people grow up with the agency, empathy, and real-world experience to shape the world around them.ย

You will help strengthen how organizations create environments where young people are both supported and trusted to lead.ย

This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing field that is rethinking what "safe" means in youth-serving spaces. Rather than defaulting to control and restriction, our work centers trust, autonomy, and shared responsibility.ย

What Will You Do:
  • Support the design and improvement of Youth Safeguarding and Youth Autonomy trainings, making them more engaging, practical, and aligned with real-world contextsย

  • Lead updates to Ashoka's Youth Autonomy Toolkit, working alongside staff and young people to ensure it reflects lived experience and is easy to useย

  • Conduct research on the insurance landscape affecting youth-serving organizations, including policies, trends, and key actors shaping definitions of risk and safetyย

  • Helpย identifyย opportunities to influence the field, including mapping strategies to shift how institutions understand youth agency as a strength rather than a liabilityย

  • Engage with young people, educators, and partners to gather insights and test ideasย

  • Contribute to internal strategy discussions, synthesis documents, and external-facing materialsย

Who Are You:
  • You care deeply about young people and believe in their ability to lead and create changeย

  • You are curious about how systems work and motivated to challenge assumptions, especially around risk, safety, and controlย

  • You are a strong researcher and clear writer, able to synthesize complex ideas into actionable insightsย

  • You are comfortable working independently in a remote environment and collaborating across a distributed teamย

  • You bring a thoughtful, reflective approach and are open to learning from young people as co-leadersย

  • You are driven, well-organized, and detail-oriented while finding fun opportunities to innovate every dayย

  • You have an ability to go deep...into a model, into a field, into an ideaย

  • You are comfortable workingย in ambiguity. Experience making something ambiguous concrete and actionableย

  • You have self-motivation andย anย entrepreneurial abilityย

  • You canย work independently in a collaborative, creative environmentย

  • You have a desire to cause systemic changeย

Whatย You'llย Gain:
  • Hands-on experience contributing to systems-level change in youth development and safeguardingย

  • Exposure to Ashoka's global network and approach to changemakingย

  • Opportunities to shape tools, trainings, and strategies used by educators and organizationsย

  • Mentorship from a team working at the forefront of youth agency and autonomyย

Additional Detailsย

  • This is an unpaidย internship,ย however, we are happy to support you in meeting the requisites of school paid internships at your university.ย ย

  • Must be based in the United Statesย

  • Must be able to pass a US background checkย

  • Flexible hours, with an expected commitment ofย at least 30 hoursย per weekย
