About The Role:

As an entry-level Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Scientist, you will acquire hands-on experience collaborating with licensed professionals. Your role will involve assisting with environmental assessments, conducting site investigations, and collecting data to help clients comply with environmental regulations and mitigate environmental impacts. Typical responsibilities include performing field surveys and sampling (air, water, soil), analyzing environmental data, preparing technical reports, supporting permitting and compliance initiatives, and contributing to the development of solutions for environmental challenges across various sectors, including municipal, healthcare, education, commercial, and industrial projects. This position combines both field and office responsibilities, supporting a variety of environmental projects.

  • What field work looks like:
    • Conducting soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling at sites to monitor contamination and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
    • Performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) to identify and evaluate recognized environmental conditions at industrial or commercial properties.
    • Conducting asbestos and hazardous building materials sampling according to EPA AHERA guidelines.
    • Inspecting regulated areas, oil storage tanks, secondary containment structures, and stormwater outfalls to ensure compliance with federal, state, and site-specific permit requirements.
    • Documenting field observations, maintaining strict safety protocols, and coordinating with project stakeholders, laboratories, and regulatory agencies.
    • Working outdoors in various weather conditions, sometimes in remote or challenging environments, and occasionally requiring travel or extended stays.
  • What office work looks like:
    • Analyze laboratory results from field samples (asbestos, soil, water, air) and interpret data to assess environmental and health risks.
    • Write technical reports that include maps, diagrams, and detailed findings to effectively communicate results and recommendations to clients, regulatory agencies, or management.
    • Develop and review project plans, manage documentation for regulatory compliance, and prepare permit applications or compliance reports for submission to government agencies.
    • Communicate with regulatory agencies, clients, and team members to ensure compliance and track project progress.
    • Conduct reviews of historical and regulatory records as part of environmental site assessments and prepare recommendations for remediation or further investigation.

About You:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or a related field
  • You have 0-2 years of experience in coursework, internships, or professional work experience related to any of the following practice areas:
    • environmental assessment methods
    • due diligence processes
    • regulatory permitting
    • environmental compliance
    • asbestos and hazardous building materials
    • Field subsurface exploration, a plus
    • Water well installation, a plus
  • You have an Engineer in training (EIT) or Geologist in training (GIT) license, or are on track to obtain one, is a plus if you obtained the corresponding educational degree
  • You have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You enjoy working in the field and are comfortable operating in demanding project environments

You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:

  • Working the majority of the time outdoors, conducting fieldwork supporting subsurface exploration in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
