Job Summary:
Settlement Project Managers oversee or are directly involved in nearly all aspects of settlement administration. Project Managers are the face of Epiq operations to our clients. Internally, they coordinate with our sales representatives, data analysts, web developers, call center supervisors, disbursement specialists, claims analysts, and a host of other personnel to ensure project deliverables are met. This position typically oversees one or more Project Coordinators or Project Specialists in the Client Services department.
Essential Job Responsibilities
A Project Manager ("PM") must meet critical client requirements, including but not limited to, the following key areas:
  • Project Execution & Resource Management - Continually monitor, evaluate, and guide project staff to meet project deliverables on time, within budget, and at the highest quality standards
  • Process Improvements - Consistently look for ways to improve Epiq processes and procedures to more profitably deliver services to our clients
  • Staff Development - Consistently apply performance standards and training to develop staff and build a high-performing team of industry experts, passionate people managers, critical thinkers, and strong problem solvers
  • Project Financial Requirements - Provide timely and accurate budget/estimate review and management, monthly revenue forecasting, and monthly invoice review
  • Economic Objectives - PMs are expected to meet billable-hour goals and oversee that similar targets are met for their direct reports

The PM is directly or indirectly responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating department staff, and establishing programs to ensure that department staff members are well trained and supported. A critical component of the job is to manage and resolve difficult client situations, including the application of critical thinking to solve existing problems and think a few steps ahead to anticipate and prevent probable issues before they arise.
Towards this goal, the PM will work with stakeholders in operational departments to continually enhance service quality standards to meet and/or exceed client expectations. This position is responsible for fostering a team environment and building cooperation between client services team members, intercompany team members, Epiq company team members, and sales to provide the highest quality service standards, reach revenue targets, and obtain efficiency/profit goals.
This specific position will be located within Class Action Programs. Class Action Programs involve large, complex settlement administrations of key cases with highly visible profiles in national media and the legal profession. The first two years of this position are expected to be spent working within the administration of a single, large antitrust matter, performing a wide range of administrative tasks which rely heavily on querying large databases and subsequent data analysis. The ability to understand and think critically about large datasets is an essential, foundational skill for this role. Specific technical certifications are appreciated but not necessary, but advanced Excel skills and basic facility with SQL are required.
Required Qualifications & Characteristics
  • Extensive project management experience is required. Prior legal experience is strongly preferred, particularly in class action legal administration. Professional PMP certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI) is preferred.
  • A strong technical orientation and aptitude, excellent computer skills, exceptional planning and organizational skills, critical thinking, and a keen attention to detail are all required. Advanced Excel skills and SQL or other relational database experience are required. Microsoft Access and Power BI experience helpful.
  • Outstanding communication skills are required. Our clients are predominantly attorneys. Successful candidates will possess an understanding of the legal services industry coupled with a strong ability to communicate effectively in writing with both attorneys and non-attorneys.
  • Knowledge of Agile or Lean Six Sigma project-management methodologies within a legal context is helpful.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required. A Juris Doctor (JD), Masters of Business Administration (MBA), or similar advanced degree is preferred.

The Compensation range for this role is $90,000 - $115,000 USD annually and may be eligible for an annual bonus.
