What is a remote data analyst internship?

A remote data analyst internship is a temporary position where interns work from a location of their choice, typically from home, to support an organization's data analysis needs. Interns in this role collect, process, and analyze data to help inform business decisions. They may use tools like Excel, SQL, or Python to organize data, create reports, and present findings. The internship provides practical experience and helps build skills that are valuable for a career in data analysis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote data analyst intern?

To thrive as an Internship Remote Data Analyst, you need a solid understanding of data analysis, statistics, and proficiency in tools like Excel, Python, or R, often supported by coursework in data science or related fields. Familiarity with data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI and experience with SQL databases are typically expected. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for interpreting data and sharing insights remotely. These abilities ensure accurate analysis, clear reporting, and effective collaboration in a virtual work environment.

What types of projects can a remote data analyst intern typically expect to work on, and how is support provided when working remotely?

As a remote data analyst intern, you can expect to work on projects like cleaning and organizing datasets, conducting exploratory data analysis, creating visualizations, and assisting with building statistical models or dashboards. MDM Data Quality Analyst

CSpring

Springfield, IL โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 2 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries to support MDM solutions and perform data analysis, validation, and reporting activities.

  • Collaborate with project teams on database objects such as tables, stored procedures, and views for MDM.

  • Perform data profiling, quality review, analysis, and document findings, recommendations, and remediation opportunities.

Job description

Description

At CSpring, we believe in the power of data to drive decisions and real-world impact. We're a purpose-driven consulting firm specializing in data strategy, data engineering, and data analytics. Our clients span the public and private sectors, and our work helps them solve complex problems, gain insights, and achieve measurable results.ย ย

We're seeking talented professionals who are collaborative, curious, and committed to making a difference that thrive at the intersection of data, technology, and business strategy. Whether you're passionate about transforming public programs, enabling executive decision-making, or modernizing legacy systems, you'll find meaningful work and purpose here.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Purposeful Projects - Improve systems that serve real people by delivering smarter data, streamlined processes, and strategic insight.
  • People-First Culture - We're as committed to your growth as we are to delivering high-impact solutions. You'll find support, autonomy, and community here.
  • Strategic, Hands-On Work - From data architecture and documentation to client workshops and solution delivery, you'll influence every step of the process.
  • Collaborative Trust - Our clients rely on us to listen carefully, deliver consistently, and guide wisely. We partner with integrity, curiosity, and heart.

What You'll Do

CSpring partners with government and healthcare organizations to solve complex problems through data, technology, and people. This role supports the Health and Human Services Innovation Incubator (HHSi2), a statewide Master Data Management initiative in Illinois building one trustworthy view of the residents the State serves across every agency that touches them. When the same person exists as four separate records, eligibility stalls and programs double-count - the analysis you do here is what makes cross-agency data reliable enough to act on.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • The records you reconcile feed eligibility and service decisions across multiple State agencies. A duplicate client record here isn't a dashboard blemish - it's someone waiting longer than they should for benefits they qualify for.
  • Statewide MDM is genuinely hard. You'll work across agency data that was never designed to be joined, on an Informatica MDM platform serving cross-agency programs - the kind of matching and survivorship problem you can't get real practice on with a tidy dataset.
  • CSpring teams are small enough that you'll own a finding end to end. You'll profile it, document the remediation recommendation, and be the person who walks the client through it rather than handing it up a chain.
  • HHSi2 spans data governance, interoperability, cloud modernization, and analytics. Whether you want to go deeper into MDM architecture or wider into stewardship and governance, both directions exist on this program.
  • Fully remote across the continental U.S., with a team that's warm and grounded and doesn't treat "remote" as a reason to be hard to reach.

What You'll Do

Working under the guidance of the MDM Technical Lead, you'll perform the data analysis, quality assessment, testing, and validation work that keeps MDM operations accurate and dependable:

  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries to support MDM solutions, and support SQL analysis, data validation, and data analysis reporting activities.
  • Collaborate with project teams supporting database objects such as tables, stored procedures, and views for MDM.
  • Perform script execution, and maintain, develop, and modify existing programs to meet system and design specifications.
  • Participate in unit, integration, and system testing.
  • Perform data profiling and quality review and analysis.
  • Perform data quality assessments and document findings, recommendations, and remediation opportunities.
  • Analyze data anomalies, matching issues, and client/member record quality concerns.
  • Gather business requirements and prepare analyses based on information from internal and external sources to evaluate and demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency supporting projects and change requests.
  • Participate in project discussions to document and recommend alternative technical solutions or requirements.
  • Support data governance and data stewardship activities and assist users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and production validation.
  • Improve the delivery and management of health and human services programs through data analytics and quality reviews.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, data quality, MDM, business analysis, data governance, and data management.
  • Experience working with MDM platforms such as Informatica MDM.
  • Experience gathering and documenting business and technical requirements.
  • Experience performing data profiling, data validation, testing, reconciliation, and data quality analysis.
  • Experience supporting QA, UAT, or system testing activities.
  • SQL experience, with large MDM and large relational DBMS.
  • Experience with data quality, matching, unique client/member identifier, standardization, reconciliation, and data governance concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data validation skills.
  • Experience supporting MDM operations, issue resolution, testing activities, and SDLC delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in other MDM tools, including cloud-native MDM solutions.
  • Experience working in State government, public sector, or regulated environments.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum sprint development and iterative/incremental delivery.
  • Experience with healthcare, Medicaid, claims, eligibility, provider, or Health and Human Services data.
  • Exposure to Python scripting for automation, testing, data validation, or profiling activities.
  • Exposure to interoperability formats such as X12, EDI, XML, JSON, APIs, or HL7/FHIR.
  • Exposure to cloud data platforms or modernization initiatives such as Azure, ADF, Databricks, Snowflake, or Data Lake.
  • Experience with on-prem-to-cloud migration, MDM modernization, or EDW / ETL modernization initiatives.
  • Exposure to automation, AI/ML, GenAI, or LLM-assisted engineering for development, testing, documentation, profiling, or data quality.
  • Ability to operate in a telecommute environment and matrix organization with minimal direction.
