Job description

Team Red Dog is hiring a Senior Software Automation Engineer for our client, a leading cloud and software provider and digital transformation leader. In this fully remote role, you will design and build scalable automation solutions that streamline engineering workflows, improve data quality, and eliminate manual operational processes across large-scale data center environments. Working with backend software, data pipelines, APIs, telemetry systems, and validation frameworks, you'll create reliable automation that enables engineering teams to operate more efficiently while supporting mission-critical infrastructure. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving complex workflow challenges and building production-ready automation that delivers measurable business impact.

Top Required Skills (Must Haves):

  1. Software Engineering & Automation Development5+ years of experience developing automation solutions using Python, C#, PowerShell, or similar programming languages to build scalable backend tools and engineering workflows.
  2. Automation Pipelines & System Integrations – Experience designing and implementing automation pipelines, backend services, workflow automation, and integrations across APIs, databases, and enterprise systems.
  3. Data Processing & Validation – Experience working with structured and semi-structured data including SQL/KQL, JSON, CSV, spreadsheets, logs, and APIs while developing validation rules and automated reporting.
  4. Software Testing & Troubleshooting – Experience creating unit tests, integration tests, validation plans, and troubleshooting production systems to deliver reliable, maintainable automation solutions.

Opportunity Overview:

This is an opportunity to build automation solutions that directly improve operational efficiency across large-scale engineering and data center environments. Rather than maintaining existing software, you'll help transform manual, spreadsheet-driven workflows into scalable, software-driven systems that improve data quality, operational readiness, and engineering productivity. Your work will be highly visible across multiple engineering and operations teams while supporting automation initiatives that continue to expand over time.

How you will make an impact:

  • Design and implement automation pipelines that streamline engineering, operational, and validation workflows.
  • Translate ambiguous manual processes into scalable technical solutions through collaboration with engineering and operations stakeholders.
  • Develop backend software that ingests, normalizes, validates, and reports on operational and telemetry data.
  • Integrate data from internal systems, databases, APIs, spreadsheets, work tracking tools, and document repositories.
  • Create reusable validation frameworks, reporting modules, and scalable automation components.
  • Automate manual review processes while maintaining appropriate human approval workflows.
  • Develop reliable software with robust logging, error handling, retry mechanisms, and audit capabilities.
  • Prepare technical documentation, implementation plans, and testing strategies.
  • Enhance and maintain existing automation solutions to meet evolving business requirements.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and post-deployment validation.
  • Troubleshoot issues across both modern and legacy systems while implementing long-term solutions.
  • Partner closely with engineering and operations teams to ensure automation outputs are accurate, actionable, and trusted.

The expertise you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5–7 years of professional software engineering or automation engineering experience.
  • Strong programming skills using Python, C#, PowerShell, or comparable automation-focused languages.
  • Experience developing backend tools, automation platforms, workflow automation, or internal engineering applications.
  • Solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and maintainable code practices.
  • Experience integrating applications with APIs, databases, enterprise systems, and external data sources.
  • Experience working with SQL/KQL query results, JSON, CSV files, spreadsheets, logs, and other structured or semi-structured data.
  • Experience developing validation frameworks, automated reporting, and data quality solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across production environments.
  • Experience developing unit tests, test plans, and validation strategies.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments while translating business processes into reliable software solutions.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, telemetry systems, Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, or engineering lifecycle tools is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document technical designs for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with AI-enabled systems is required.

What makes a candidate highly successful in this role:

Successful candidates have a strong background in software engineering or automation engineering and enjoy solving operational challenges through software. They are comfortable designing backend tools that integrate multiple enterprise data sources, creating scalable automation pipelines, and transforming manual workflows into reliable production systems. They combine strong programming skills with excellent troubleshooting, testing, documentation, and stakeholder communication, enabling them to deliver automation that is both technically sound and operationally valuable.
