The Opportunity

The AVP of Marketing Technology Activation & Growth reports directly to the SVP of P&C Marketing and brings focus on continuously improving how USAA serves its 14M+ members by partnering across the Association to connect data, technology, and execution, while driving ongoing innovation in P&C marketing. This executive leader is accountable for driving value from MarTech, data, and innovation, with a clear focus on translating capabilities into measurable business impact across P&C Marketing and the broader association. This role ensures that investments in technology and data deliver tangible outcomes, owning value realization while advancing marketing execution. This leader brings deep expertise in MarTech activation, with a strong emphasis on evolving capabilities to continue to modernize how we go to market. They partner across the association to connect data, technology, and execution, leading the use of our technology ecosystem to drive acquisition, conversion, and deepening through disciplined audience strategy, lifecycle design, and personalized, connected member experiences. They own the design and orchestration of end-to-end journeys across channels including email, SMS, outbound calling, and onsite experiences to create relevance and outcomes at scale. In close partnership with the centralized MarTech team, this role shapes and drives the innovation agenda for P&C Marketing, helping define and execute the roadmap for emerging capabilities. As an executive leader, the AVP combines strategic vision with hands-on depth, building high-performing teams while raising the standard on speed, accountability, and impact.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Deep expertise in modern MarTech ecosystems with strong capabilities in data-driven audience strategy, marketing automation, journey orchestration, testing and optimization, and the practical application of AI to improve efficiency and business results.

  • Proven track record leading lifecycle marketing and activation at scale. Hands-on experience with Marketing Technology Platforms (Adobe, Salesforce, boutique marketing AI firms), focused on activating audiences and journeys with demonstrated ability to orchestrate across channels

  • Strong expertise in audience strategy and segmentation, and using data to drive acquisition, conversion, retention, and product deepening

  • Experience owning end-to-end lifecycle programs, including lead nurture, onboarding, engagement, and win-back

  • Strength in testing and optimization, including designing experiments, interpreting results, and continuously improving performance

  • Experience building and leading high-performing, future-ready teams

  • Comfortable working in a matrixed environment and influencing centralized MarTech, analytics, product, and channel teams without direct ownership

  • Strong capability translating business goals into clear activation strategies and measurable outcomes

  • Experience shaping and advancing innovation agendas, including practical application of AI in segmentation, personalization, and workflow automation

What You'll Do

  • Oversee the development of go-to-market, execution plans, and channel marketing support plans. Serves as a subject matter expert in understanding, collecting and coordinating channel marketing requirements.

  • Monitor results via business plan assessment and through implementing changes to plans to drive desired results. Identifies new/emerging channels, resources and intermediaries and develops integrated strategies, plans and programs to leverage these opportunities.

  • Develop strategic capability roadmaps that include operational and technology paths necessary to deliver future business needs.

  • Provide consultation and decision-making support for the development and implementation of new channel management and optimization capabilities necessary to measure performance, test and learn and drive digital marketing insights.

  • Research and keeps abreast of new and emerging industry technologies and trends that can affect the application of channel management and optimization approaches.

  • Oversee the effective deployment of Machine Learning (ML) and Automated Intelligence (AI) platforms to drive improved performance and automation at scale.

  • Be accountable for overall effective delivery of end to end marketing channel management processes and experiences and serves as the executive sponsor for channel marketing data and information requirements.

  • Identify emerging third-party relationship opportunities to support future business needs.

  • Manage the risk and performance associated with large scale third-party contracts in support of USAA's compliance initiatives.

  • Brief C-Suite leadership on key initiatives and outcomes related to marketing channels.

  • Build and oversee a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.


What You Have

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and / or experience.

  • 10 years of progressive experience in sales/marketing, developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.

  • 6 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.

  • 2 years of experience working with Machine Learning (ML) and Automated Intelligence (AI) platforms to drive improved performance and automation at scale.

  • Marketing process excellence orientation with experience in managing and optimizing compliant marketing channels/campaigns in a highly regulated environment.

  • In depth experience operating and leading in an agile environment.

  • In depth experience using data and metrics to measure impact and resolve improvements to deliver more effective ROI.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of industry-related risk management and compliance framework and guidelines to include relevant laws, regulatory, compliance, industry regulations and regulatory data sources.

  • Experience developing strategic capability roadmaps to deliver against future business needs.

  • Experience developing multi-marketing channel/campaign goals and demonstrated ability to achieve goals.

  • Ability to effectively engage with and influence C-Suite leaders.

  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business planning, operations, industry practices and emerging trends.

  • Knowledge of federal laws, rules, and regulations to include: UDAAP, OCC Bulletin 2013-29: Third-Party Relationships: Risk Management Guidance , Reg W, Info Security and Privacy Standards (such as GLBA; TCPA; GDPR; CCPA; Privacy).

Compensation:The salary range for this position is $195,230 to $351,410.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
