An Internship in Remote 3D Visualization is a temporary, learning-based position where students or recent graduates work remotely to create and analyze three-dimensional digital models using specialized software. Interns assist with visualizing concepts for industries such as architecture, engineering, gaming, or product design. This role provides hands-on experience in 3D modeling, rendering, and sometimes animation, all while collaborating virtually with professional teams. It is a valuable opportunity to build a portfolio and gain practical skills relevant to careers in technology and design.

What types of projects and collaboration can I expect during a remote 3D visualization internship?

As a remote 3D Visualization intern, you will typically work on projects such as creating 3D models, rendering visual concepts, and assisting with architectural or product visualizations. Most internships involve close collaboration with design teams, project managers, and sometimes clients, using digital communication tools to share progress and receive feedback. You may also participate in virtual meetings or brainstorming sessions to align your work with project goals. This structure offers valuable exposure to real-world workflows and teamwork in a professional setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship remote 3D visualization professional?

To thrive in a Remote 3D Visualization Internship, you need a foundational understanding of 3D modeling, rendering techniques, and familiarity with design principles, often supported by coursework or a portfolio. Proficiency in industry-standard tools such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Blender, or SketchUp, along with knowledge of rendering engines like V-Ray or Unreal Engine, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication skills help interns collaborate virtually and present visual concepts clearly. These skills and qualities are critical for delivering high-quality visual assets and efficiently contributing to remote design teams.

What is the difference between Internship Remote 3D Visualization vs 3D Artist?

AspectInternship Remote 3D Visualization3D Artist
CredentialsBasic knowledge of 3D software, often students or entry-levelProficiency in 3D modeling, rendering, and design; often requires a portfolio
Work EnvironmentRemote, internship setting, supervised by professionalsCan be remote or on-site, full-time or freelance
Industry UsageUsed for training, learning, and entry-level project supportProfessional work creating visual content for clients or projects

While both roles involve 3D skills, an Internship Remote 3D Visualization focuses on learning and supporting visualization projects under supervision, whereas a 3D Artist is a professional creating detailed visual content independently or for clients.

Job description

Be Part Of A High-Performing Team

Join a small, remote-first sports technology company building precision hardware and software that capture and reconstruct complex real-world activity from high-frequency sensor data. The engineering team works with a high degree of autonomy and owns problems end to end, from architecture and performance through product decisions and final user experience.

This role sits at the intersection of real-time graphics, telemetry, product engineering, and performance optimization. The core challenge is transforming streams of position, speed, heading, environmental, and movement data into an intuitive spatial experience that users can replay, explore, and analyze. The environment is fast-moving, low-meeting, async-friendly, and especially well suited to engineers who enjoy technically difficult visualization problems and meaningful individual ownership.

What's In Store For You

  • 100% remote working environment with an async-friendly, intentionally low-meeting culture.
  • 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to transition into the permanent engineering organization.
  • Significant ownership across architecture, product decisions, implementation, optimization, and production delivery.
  • Opportunity to build sophisticated software connected to physical hardware and real-world telemetry.
  • Exposure to real-time visualization, analytics, spatial computing, high-frequency datasets, and emerging AI-assisted product capabilities.
  • Optional workspace access in Seattle, Washington and Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Upon permanent conversion, company-provided benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k), flexible PTO, and an equipment stipend.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Build a high-performance 2D/3D replay and visualization experience using Three.js, WebGL/WebGPU, and potentially react-three-fiber.
  • Reconstruct complex real-world events from telemetry and allow users to view them from multiple camera perspectives with smooth playback and frame-level navigation.
  • Develop the surrounding React and TypeScript product experience, including timelines, playback controls, camera systems, data overlays, and analytical interfaces.
  • Turn large telemetry datasets into meaningful insights, comparisons, and performance analytics.
  • Engineer applications that continuously render while remaining responsive across laptops and mobile devices.
  • Optimize rendering pipelines, interpolation, memory usage, application architecture, and data processing for high-frequency datasets.
  • Profile render loops, identify frame-time bottlenecks, reduce unnecessary draw calls, and improve overall rendering performance.
  • Build full-stack product features when required, including APIs, data pipelines, analytics capabilities, and AI-enabled functionality.
  • Translate technically accurate data into experiences that are clear, readable, and useful to real users.
  • Own technical problems from initial architecture through implementation, performance tuning, and production deployment.

Do you bring proven success in real-time product engineering and visualization?

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience developing user-facing products.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with TypeScript and React.
  • Production browser-graphics experience using Three.js, react-three-fiber, WebGL, WebGPU, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience developing software that renders continuously and optimizing it for production performance.
  • Strong understanding of rendering performance concepts including frame budgets, render loops, draw calls, memory utilization, and frame-time diagnosis.
  • Strong data-visualization judgment, particularly involving time-series, telemetry, geospatial, or similarly complex datasets.
  • Ability to translate large or technically complex datasets into intuitive visual experiences.
  • Experience developing backend functionality using Go, TypeScript, Rust, or a comparable modern backend stack.
  • Strong product-engineering mindset with the ability to work across frontend, visualization, data, backend, and product boundaries.
  • Comfortable using modern LLM-assisted development tools while maintaining complete ownership and understanding of production code.
  • Ability to operate independently and make sound engineering decisions in a small, highly autonomous team.

Especially relevant backgrounds

Candidates with experience in the following environments are particularly well aligned:

  • Gaming
  • Simulation
  • VFX / real-time graphics
  • Sports technology
  • Telemetry platforms
  • Race or event visualization
  • Geospatial applications

Experience building camera systems, replay systems, interpolation engines, simulation playback, or performance-sensitive rendering pipelines is especially valuable.

Sailing experience is not required.

Additional valuable experience

  • GPS track processing and geospatial rendering
  • Timeline, playback, replay, or video-style interfaces
  • Go
  • Flutter/Dart
  • WebAssembly
  • WebGPU
  • Compute shaders or GPU compute
  • Large, high-frequency time-series datasets
  • Hardware-connected applications
