You'll serve as the face of our company in the field, combining strong technical acumen with excellent customer communication skills to deliver reliable, high-quality service.
This is a field-based role covering NYC and Northern New Jersey, with occasional travel to other states as needed. You'll work from home and travel regularly to customer sites, such as salons, retail stores, and hotels, throughout the territory.
What You'll Do- Perform on-site installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and repair of electro-mechanical and networked systems at customer locations in salons, stores and hotels
- Decommission failed units and return them to headquarters for further investigation
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, electrical, and network-related issues using systematic troubleshooting methodologies
- Interpret technical documentation, schematics, and wiring diagrams to identify root causes and implement solutions
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and documentation in the field management system
- Configure, test, and validate network connectivity including LAN/WAN, switches, routers, and communication protocols
- Communicate clearly with customers to explain technical issues, repair status, and recommended corrective actions
- Coordinate with remote engineering and support teams to escalate complex issues when needed
- Assemble consumable components and deliver to in-field locations on a regular basis
- Manage parts inventory, tools, and test equipment assigned to your territory
- Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and customer site requirements
- Provide timely feedback on recurring failure trends and improvement opportunities
Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
Experience
- 1-4 years of hands-on experience in a field service, technical support, or systems maintenance role, or a recent degree with relevant internship, co-op, lab, or capstone project experience working with electro-mechanical systems
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems (motors, actuators, sensors, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar)
- Experience using Linux or Raspberry Pis (navigation, reading logs, ssh/remote access)
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, and basic switch/router configuration
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to fault isolation
- Proficiency with standard diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers)
- Ability to work independently and manage a field schedule with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in varied environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, or customer warehouses
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; willingness to travel within assigned territory (up to 75% travel)
- On occasion travel to HQ or other out of state locations for meetings, training, or to support other geographies (up to 10%)
