Summary:
The Statistician will support the CQI Statistics team by performing a variety of quantitative analytic functions. This role involves data management, quality assurance, and statistical analysis using various datasets and executing analytic plans under the guidance of senior staff:
  • Providing statistical guidance.
  • Evaluating data integrity.
  • Constructing statistical models for predictive purposes.
  • Reporting results in different formats appropriate for program leadership/staff, external stakeholders and research investigators.

This exempt level position will report to the Manager, Statistical Analysis/Senior Statistician II in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 (commensurate with related experience).
Primary Responsibilities:
Statistical Analysis and Modeling:
  • Execute and define standardized analytic plans under supervision to support data analytics for assigned program.
  • Support relevant classification methods and contribute to predictive and prognostic modeling, statistical learning methods, employing machine learning and data science techniques.
  • Provide ad hoc analytics support to assigned program.
  • Contribute to custom research projects.

Quality Assurance and Data Integrity:
  • Evaluate data structure and integrity on an ongoing basis, determining whether data is consistent with expectations and whether specifications or data collection processes need to be changed.
  • Conduct data quality assurance testing for database deliverables.
  • Support relevant stakeholders in developing and releasing quality measures for rule-based logic implementation.

Reporting and Visualization:
  • Write sections of reports and manuscripts dealing with methods and results.
  • Develop novel reports, under direction from senior staff, using applications such as SAS, R, Python.
  • Create visual reports and dashboards.

Cross-Functional and Customer Support:
  • Provide customer support to program teams.
  • Coordinate meeting logistics for cross-departmental statistician meetings (e.g., NSQIP, Trauma).

Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and/or Experience:
  • A master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, public health, social sciences, or related field with strong quantitative concentration is required.
  • 2+ years of statistical experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with SAS is required. Python, R, or other transferable programming skill set for data manipulation and analysis is preferred.
  • Experience with manipulating large data sets, data cleaning, transformation, and merging is required.
  • Experience performing exploratory data analysis and creating descriptive summaries is required.
  • Experience with statistical methods, such as linear and logistic multiple regression, model selection, mixed hierarchical models, and survival analysis, is required. Coursework or experience with Bayesian statistical methods is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL and Macros for handling structured data is preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and basic report generation is preferred.
  • Good verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Good written communication skills including grammatical/technical writing skills.
