Job description

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company reclaiming the lost art of rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world today. By prioritizing relentless hardware iteration, we deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield. We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About The Role: 
The Manufacturing Team at Hermeus are the boots on the ground. We have a vast array of experiences ranging from welding, additive, tube bending, machining, integration, and avionics. We are a lean team who are responsible for building a vehicle that will fly. We provide crucial design feedback to our engineering team and can rapidly iterate on design and assembly. 
 
Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)
Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)
Responsibilities:
  • Support manufacturing and process improvement projects focused on safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency
  • Partner with engineers and technicians to support hardware build, integration, and production activities
  • Assist with root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and resolution of manufacturing issues
  • Help evaluate designs for manufacturability, testability, and production readiness
  • Support development and improvement of tooling, assembly processes, and test procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that reduce build time, improve quality, and eliminate waste
  • Assist with troubleshooting non-conforming hardware and documenting findings
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, test procedures, BOMs, and standard operating procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the transition of hardware from development into production
Requirements:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, or manufacturing hardware through internships, coursework, research, competition teams, or personal projects
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles and interest in vehicle hardware
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, assembly, testing, CAD, technical drawings, or GD&T
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
$25 - $33 an hour

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
