We're hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Wood Dale, IL.



Sterling Engineering is partnering with a longtime client of more than 25 years to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer for a direct hire opportunity. Our client is a stable, mid-sized manufacturer known for developing custom-engineered electrical products and investing in the growth of early career engineers. Location: Wood Dale,IL

Schedule: Full-Time

Hire Type: Direct Hire

Salary: $68,000 to $75,000 annually


What You'll Do:

• Design new mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks

• Create detailed manufacturing drawings with GD&T and proper tolerancing

• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)

• Support prototype development, testing, and design validation

• Work directly with manufacturing to optimize designs for production

• Perform engineering calculations related to material selection, strength, and thermal performance

• Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain engineering documentation

• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve existing product designs


Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

• 0 to 3 years of engineering experience

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Previous engineering internship or co-op is required

• Strong SolidWorks design experience

• Understanding of GD&T, manufacturing drawings, and mechanical design principles

• Experience with machining, fabrication, or assembly processes is preferred

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
