Primary Purpose:
The Healthcare Curriculum & Instruction Specialist (CIS) is responsible for designing and developing high- quality, culturally relevant curriculum and instructional resources across grade levels that align with Uplift Education's Scope and Sequence, the IB Programme Standards and Practices, and healthcare industry standards. The CIS supports implementation through coaching, training, and collaboration with educators, instructional leaders, and healthcare partners, with the goal of enhancing scholar academic achievement and informed career decision-making. In addition, the healthcare CIS will support the planning of profession-based learning experiences in partnership with the Director of Healthcare Programs & Pathways, aligned to Uplift's goals to ensure scholars are on track towards college and economically viable careers. The Director of Healthcare Programs and Pathways will oversee the overall administration of the program and curriculum vision, as well as the development of healthcare pathways in partnership with Baylor Scott and White Health.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Instructional Design
  • Develop and maintain curriculum resources (unit plans, assessments, and instructional tools) aligned to IB standards, industry competencies, and Uplift's Scope and Sequence.
  • Ensure vertical alignment and coherence across grade levels and content areas.
  • Incorporate healthcare career exposure and real-world learning experiences into the curriculum, including summer programming.
  • Regularly update and monitor content within Schoology curriculum courses.
  • Provide curriculum development support for healthcare pathway courses to ensure alignment with industry expectations and standards.

Teacher Coaching & Professional Learning
  • Provide content-specific professional development for teachers and school leaders through whole- group sessions, small groups, and individualized coaching.
  • Coach teachers on instructional best practices, lesson planning, IB-aligned instruction, and career integration strategies.
  • Lead and facilitate PLCs, instructional trainings, and planning meetings.
  • Support campus leaders in designing and delivering PD aligned with the IB Programme Standards and instructional planning practices.

Instructional Implementation & Monitoring
  • Conduct classroom observations, walkthroughs, and school reviews to monitor curriculum implementation and instructional quality.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from campus leaders, teachers, and peers to strengthen curriculum and instructional supports.
  • Collaborate with Road to College and Career (RTCC) teams to ensure alignment between instruction, academic advising, and career guidance.

Assessment, Data Analysis & Strategic Support
  • Analyze scholar performance data (qualitative and quantitative) to guide curriculum adjustments, teacher development, and targeted interventions.
  • Collaborate with the Data Team to track progress toward school and organizational goals, including TIA performance metrics for teachers and student subgroups.
  • Work with the People Team to design and monitor TIA assessments and remain current on TEA guidance
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of career programming and analyze career outcomes through using KPIs and other appropriate metrics

Healthcare Pathway Integration
  • Manage projects on behalf of Uplift's Healthcare Programs Team from concept to implementation, including project scope, tracking and people management
  • Collaborate with BSWH and higher education partners to integrate healthcare experiences into instruction.
  • Support the development and execution of scholar engagement activities such as mentorship programs, workshops, and clinical observation and internship programs outlined by the Director of Healthcare Programs & Pathways.
  • Partner with the Director of Healthcare Programs & Pathways to facilitate industry-based certification assessments through National Health Career Association (NHA) testing platforms as well as Certiport.
  • Integrates knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program quality and coordinates corrections from faculty responsible for teaching specific units/sections.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
  • Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Life Science, or similar required; master's degree preferred. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree preferences.
  • Preferred Experience Requirements:
    • Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, or education leadership.
    • Experience in healthcare or healthcare education.
    • Strong background in instructional best practices and student engagement strategies.
  • Special Skills/Certifications:
    • People skills, adaptability, critical thinking, growth mindset, collaboration, creativity, timeliness, resourcefulness

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and instructional technology tools.
  • Ability to facilitate professional development and teacher training.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and industry professionals.

Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Work Environment:
Travel between campuses and BSWH locations is required. Occasional evening or weekend events required.
