Position Summary

The Senior Healthcare Subject Matter Expert supports the Defense Health Agency (DHA) by providing advanced healthcare analytics and technical expertise to support mission-critical decision-making across the Military Health System (MHS). This position requires extensive experience working with military healthcare data and enterprise data repositories to develop analytical products, executive reporting, dashboards, predictive analyses, and data-driven recommendations for senior Government leadership.

This is a fully remote contractor role that requires someone who can work independently while staying closely connected with government stakeholders, clinicians, functional analysts, data engineers, and cross-functional project teams. The analyst must understand the relationships among clinical, administrative, readiness, and operational healthcare data and rapidly translate Government questions into technically sound analytical solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently identify and access appropriate DHA enterprise data sources, including MHS GENESIS, MIP, M2, MDR, EIDS, and other authorized repositories, to satisfy Government analytical requirements.
  • Leverage extensive knowledge of Military Health System (MHS) data domains, business rules, and clinical workflows to develop accurate, defensible analyses with minimal supervision.
  • Translate Government healthcare questions into analytical solutions by identifying appropriate data sources, developing methodologies, and delivering accurate, actionable results.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain advanced SQL queries for data extraction, integration, validation, and analysis across DHA enterprise healthcare data repositories.
  • Integrate and reconcile data across multiple DHA enterprise systems to support comprehensive analyses, executive reporting, and decision-making.
  • Design, develop, and maintain analytical solutions using Python, SAS, and/or R to automate data processing, statistical analyses, reporting workflows, and repeatable analytic processes.
  • Develop interactive dashboards, executive reports, and visual analytics using Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
  • Develop executive-level visualizations and briefing materials that communicate complex analytical findings in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Design and implement repeatable analytical processes, automated reporting solutions, and reusable code to improve operational efficiency.
  • Document analytical methodologies, business rules, assumptions, and technical processes to ensure repeatability, transparency, and knowledge transfer.
  • Support validation, testing, and continuous enhancement of analytical products and enterprise reporting capabilities.
  • Respond to ad hoc analytical requests supporting evolving Government priorities and emerging mission requirements.
  • Collaborate with functional analysts, clinicians, data engineers, and Government stakeholders to understand business requirements, define analytical approaches, and deliver integrated data solutions.
  • Work independently to manage assigned analytical efforts while coordinating with technical leads, functional analysts, clinicians, and Government stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving DHA enterprise data sources, reporting requirements, and healthcare analytics best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Healthcare Informatics, Public Health, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience performing healthcare data analytics.
  • Minimum of five (5) years supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA), Military Health System (MHS), or other Department of Defense healthcare organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience independently accessing, interpreting, integrating, and analyzing Military Health System (MHS) data across multiple DHA enterprise data repositories, including MHS GENESIS, Discern, MDR, M2, EIDS, and other authorized Military Health System data sources.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including developing complex queries to locate, extract, integrate, validate, and analyze data across large healthcare databases.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following analytical languages (Python, SAS, or R); proficiency in multiple analytical languages is preferred.
  • Experience developing executive dashboards, analytical visualizations, and reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
  • Demonstrated experience performing predictive analytics, statistical analysis, and trend analysis.
  • Experience developing executive-level dashboards, performance metrics, and decision-support products.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities within a fully remote, geographically dispersed team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required Government system access and security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
