Job description


This is a full-time, temporary position from September - February.
The Fitness/Wellness Specialist is responsible for the Charter House fitness/wellness program. The Fitness/Wellness Specialist is responsible for providing a service oriented and welcoming environment to all persons who visit the Fitness/Wellness Center. The primary responsibility of this position is to plan, organize, implement and evaluate fitness/wellness programs for older adults. This includes individual and group programs. May include programming for interested staff of the facility.
Must demonstrate health promotion programming development, implementation and evaluation skills. The Fitness/Wellness Specialist must demonstrate competency in performing functional fitness tests and accurately interpreting the results to design an individual specific program with the needs of the customer in mind, including high standards and confidentiality. Must be able to effectively plan, organize and implement appropriate group exercise and fitness/wellness programs. The Fitness/Wellness Specialist must readily apply the latest research evidence to their daily work. They must have the capacity to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must both in individual and group interactions. They must possess a sense of imagination and creativity.
Qualifications
B.S. or B.A. in a Health and Fitness field required (Exercise Science, exercise physiology). Certification in ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) required within the first 6 months of employment. Two years' experience in a health club or corporate wellness setting, and/or related internship experience preferred. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
