What are Internship Program Bank positions?

Internship Program Bank positions are temporary roles offered by banks to students or recent graduates, allowing them to gain practical experience in the banking sector. These internships typically involve working alongside experienced professionals in various departments, such as finance, customer service, risk management, or operations. Participants can learn about daily banking operations, develop essential workplace skills, and explore potential career paths within the financial industry. Internships may last from a few weeks to several months and can sometimes lead to full-time job opportunities after graduation.

What types of projects or tasks can interns expect to work on during a bank internship program?

During a bank internship program, interns typically engage in a variety of tasks such as assisting with financial analysis, supporting customer service initiatives, conducting market research, and helping prepare internal reports or presentations. Interns may also shadow professionals from departments like retail banking, corporate finance, or risk management to gain a holistic understanding of banking operations. The work environment is often collaborative, with interns participating in team meetings and sometimes contributing to cross-functional projects. This exposure helps interns build practical skills and gain insights into the day-to-day workings of the banking sector.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Program participant at a bank, and why are they important?

To thrive as an intern in a bank, you typically need a background in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, along with strong analytical and quantitative skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, financial modeling tools, and common banking software is often expected. Effective communication, eagerness to learn, and the ability to work well in a team set standout interns apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for adapting quickly, contributing meaningfully, and maximizing the learning experience in a dynamic banking environment.

Job description

At JPMorgan Chase, we're creating positive change for the diverse communities we serve. We do this by championing your innovative ideas through a supportive culture that helps you every step of the way as you build your career. If you're passionate, curious and ready to make an impact, we're looking for you.

As a Fall Off-Cycle Analyst in the Commodities Trading Internship Program, you will gain direct exposure to project-oriented work across supply-demand modeling, trading signal development and back testing, and data visualization to help support the cross product franchise. The expectation is you will bring exposure to the forefront of quantitative techniques and learn from the senior trading team how to marry that academic excellence to real world application.

Working here means joining a collaborative, supportive team. We want your diverse perspective to help us innovate the next wave of products and solutions for our clients. We'll give you what you need to succeed from training to mentoring from senior leaders to projects that engage all your skills.  Top performers may receive continued renewal in the Spring and an on ramp to the summer internship program.

Job responsibilities

  • Analyze market data, build detailed trading strategies, hedging solutions, and data visualizations in the commodity space.
  • Develop innovative and creative ways to solve complex, real-world business challenges
  • Learn how we help clients and communities grow, no matter their needs
  • Sharpen your technical skills
  • Build your professional network with mentors, senior executives and others

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Excellent analytical, quantitative (e.g., algebra, statistics, probability) and interpretative skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative work environment
  • Being adaptable, flexible and resilient
  • Knowing your way around Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Fluent in English
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale
  • Expected graduation date of December 2026 - June 2028 from Bachelor's or Master's program (If you are pursuing a Master's degree, it must be within 2 years of receiving your Bachelor's degree)

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Python proficiency
  • Experience in commodities markets
  • Experience in a trading organization in a research capacity.

To be eligible for this program, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. We offer limited sponsorship for those enrolled in STEM degree programs that are heavily indexed in finance.

We will be filling our classes on a rolling basis. We strongly encourage you to submit your application as early as possible before job postings close.

What's next?

Help us learn about you by submitting a complete and thoughtful application, which includes your resume. Your application and resume is a way for us to initially get to know you, so it's important to complete all relevant application questions so we have as much information about you as possible.

After you confirm your application, we will review it to determine whether you meet certain required qualifications.

If you are advanced to the next step of the process, you'll receive an email invitation to complete (1) a video interview and (2) a math test, powered by HireVue. This is your opportunity to further bring your resume to life and showcase your experience and skills for our recruiting team and hiring managers.

Completion of the HireVue video interview and math test is required, and your application will not be considered for further review until you have completed both. We strongly encourage that you apply and complete these as soon as possible, since programs will close as positions are filled.
