What is an internship print pattern design?

Internship print pattern design jobs are entry-level positions where interns assist in creating and developing patterns and prints for textiles, fashion, and other materials. These roles typically involve supporting senior designers by researching trends, sketching concepts, using design software, and preparing artwork for production. Interns gain hands-on experience in the design process, learn industry standards, and build a portfolio of work. These internships help students or recent graduates gain practical skills and make valuable industry connections.

As an intern in Print Pattern Design, you’ll typically assist with developing original patterns, preparing artwork for production, and supporting the design team through mood boards or trend research. You might also help digitize sketches, create colorways, and collaborate closely with senior designers to translate concepts into final prints. Expect a fast-paced, creative environment where you’ll gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software and learn about the full design-to-production workflow. Interns often participate in team meetings, receive feedback on their work, and sometimes have the opportunity to see their designs used in real products.

Job description

Apparel & Textile Designer | Print, Color & Trend

Colored Organics | Minneapolis, MN

Full-Time or Part-Time | Designer or Senior Designer Level Based on Experience

About Colored Organics

Colored Organics is a growing baby and children’s apparel brand creating thoughtfully designed, high-quality products using organic materials. We are looking for a talented Apparel & Textile Designer with a strong eye for print, color, trend, and product to help shape and develop our seasonal collections.

This is a highly creative, hands-on role for someone who loves discovering what is next and translating inspiration into beautiful, commercially relevant product.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the creative direction of the brand, from identifying emerging trends and developing seasonal color stories to creating original prints, designing collections, and working directly with our vendors to bring those ideas to life.

We are open to hiring at either the Designer or Senior Designer level based on the candidate’s experience, portfolio, and ability to independently own key areas of the design and development process.

What You’ll Do
  • Research and identify emerging fashion, color, print, textile, and lifestyle trends and translate them into relevant opportunities for Colored Organics
  • Develop seasonal creative direction, mood boards, color palettes, print stories, fabric concepts, and collection themes
  • Create original all-over surface prints and patterns, including florals, conversational prints, geometrics, and other seasonal artwork
  • Develop seamless repeats, print scales, colorways, CADs, and production-ready artwork
  • Help design cohesive seasonal collections across baby and children’s apparel, sleepwear, accessories, and new product categories
  • Identify and recommend silhouettes, fabrics, textures, trims, details, prints, and colors that keep the assortment fresh while remaining true to the brand
  • Translate broader fashion and lifestyle trends into designs that feel distinctly Colored Organics
  • Work directly with overseas vendors and factories throughout the development process to bring designs from concept to production
  • Review and provide clear feedback on lab dips, strike-offs, fabrics, trims, samples, and other vendor submissions
  • Collaborate closely with our product, merchandising, marketing, and leadership teams to ensure collections are both creatively compelling and commercially relevant
  • Maintain a cohesive design point of view across prints, colors, fabrics, silhouettes, and product categories
  • Continually evaluate the competitive landscape and identify opportunities for new products, categories, fabrics, and design concepts

What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in apparel design, textile design, surface pattern design, fashion design, or a related creative field
  • An exceptional eye for color, print, pattern, proportion, and trend
  • Strong ability to create original artwork and seamless repeating patterns
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience creating production-ready print artwork, colorways, CADs, and design specifications
  • Strong understanding of textiles, fabrications, garment construction, and the apparel development process
  • Experience working directly with overseas factories and vendors is strongly preferred
  • Ability to take an idea from trend inspiration through concept, design, development, and finished product
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple collections and development timelines
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to be hands-on
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your point of view across print, color, pattern, product, and collection development

Experience in baby, children’s, women’s, or lifestyle apparel is a plus, but we are equally interested in exceptional designers from adjacent categories who understand our aesthetic and can bring a fresh perspective to the brand.

Who You Are

You are someone who is constantly noticing what is next, whether it is a color that keeps appearing, a new silhouette gaining momentum, an interesting textile, a print direction, or a subtle shift in the market.

You have a strong creative point of view, but you also understand that great design needs to connect with the customer.

You are equally comfortable building a seasonal color story, creating an original print, developing a collection, reviewing a strike-off with a vendor, and refining the small details that make a product feel special.

Most importantly, you are excited by the opportunity to help shape and evolve a growing brand while collaborating closely with an experienced product and creative team.

Why Colored Organics

Colored Organics is a woman-owned and operated company built by a passionate, collaborative team. We are a growing brand where ideas are valued, creativity is encouraged, and individual team members have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Our hands-on, entrepreneurial environment gives team members the opportunity to contribute ideas and have a real voice in the development of the brand.

In this role, your creativity will directly influence our seasonal collections, prints, colors, fabrics, products, and the continued evolution of the Colored Organics aesthetic.

We value creativity, collaboration, attention to detail, curiosity, and people who are excited to roll up their sleeves and build something special.
