The Role:

This internship offers a unique opportunity to dive into the world of Packaging Optimization, where you will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of automotive solutions.
The Team:
Join the Packaging Optimization team and become part of one of the most dynamic and innovative organizations within General Motors. Our mission is to provide GM with a competitive advantage through exemplary services and solutions.
As part of the Packaging Optimization team, you will be interacting with industry leaders, attending cross-functional events, and volunteering for community service activities. You will gain valuable work experience in Global Aftersales Packaging Engineering.
What You'll Do:
  • Support the complete packaging development process including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing
  • Fix new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, processes and provides creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to resolve physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging
  • Evaluate and select packaging suppliers / vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Works closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing
  • Participate in product introduction teams to deliver new products to market

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related field
  • Graduating between December 2027 and August 2028
  • Able to work full time, 40 hours per week

  • Proficient in Excel for data analytics and BI software for data visualization
  • Desire to learn new tools/methodologies
  • Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service organizations

Work Arrangement:

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program. To help facilitate administration of relocation benefits if you are selected, please apply using the permanent address you would move from.
Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2027.
