Position Description:
The Campus Recreation and Wellness department in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Louisville is seeking to hire a Manager, Campus Recreation. The Manager provides leadership for the University's fitness program, including group fitness programming, personal training, fitness assessments and related services that support student well-being and engagement. This position manages a professional staff member and more than 30 student employees, oversees fitness programming at the Student Recreation Center and the Health Sciences Campus Fitness Center, and is responsible for program development, staffing, risk management and assisting with the maintenance and management of fitness equipment and resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and oversight for all components of the department's fitness program, including group fitness programming, personal training, fitness assessments, peer education programs and specialty wellness services
  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates a comprehensive schedule of group fitness classes and fitness-focused wellness programs for students and SRC members
  • Hires, trains, supervises, schedules, evaluates, and processes payroll for one professional staff member and more than 30 student group fitness instructors, personal trainers, interns and other support staff
  • Leads personal training services inclusive of promotion, staff development, program standards, and registration processes
  • Coordinates fitness-related services and programs such as massage therapy, body composition analysis and other wellness initiatives
  • Assists with the maintenance, inventory, inspection, replacement, and purchasing recommendations for fitness equipment and other resources
  • Collaborates with departmental marketing staff on promotional efforts related to fitness and wellness programming
  • Leads fitness programming initiatives and supervises fitness instructors at the HSC Fitness Facility
  • Assists with departmental assessment initiatives including participation tracking, program evaluation, wellness outcomes and reporting efforts
  • Assists with the management and monitoring of expressive activity groups and external groups utilizing spaces on campus
  • Collaborate with the department's Wellness Manager and other campus partners such as the Counseling Center and Campus Health Services to support programs and outreach initiatives aligned with the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and enhance holistic student well-being initiatives
  • Assists with other Division initiatives and operations as necessary including, but not limited to, freshman orientation, Welcome Week, and resident move-in events
  • Performs other duties and completes special projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in recreation, sports administration, exercise science, higher education, wellness, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in a collegiate recreation setting managing fitness programming, personal training or wellness programming
  • Nationally recognized fitness certification(s)
  • BLS/CPR, AED and first aid certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire
  • Experience supervising student staff and fitness personnel in a collegiate recreation setting
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proficiency using SPSS or similar statistical software

Work Hours and Location
This is a full-time, exempt position with a 37.5-hour regular workweek including evening and weekend hours as required. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work location for this position is at the Belknap Campus. Occasional overnight travel (for professional development, conferences, student trips, etc.) may be required.
